I tried using the camera app ``Outing AR'' that allows you to go out with your avatar in real life just by walking with your iPhone

When engaging in various activities on the Internet, many people use 2D or 3D avatars to act as virtual characters instead of their own images. By superimposing your avatar on the background taken with a camera, you can shoot a video that looks like you are actually taking a walk as an avatar. If you use the camera app ' Outing AR ', you can see a 3D avatar walking within the camera's field of view. So, I heard that you can enjoy the feeling of taking a walk together, so I tried it out.

Outing AR can be purchased for 300 yen including tax.

When you install and start the application, you will be asked to access the microphone, so tap 'Permit'.

You will be asked to access the camera, so tap 'Allow'.

The avatar displayed on the screen can be placed closer by pinching in, and farther away by pinching out. Also, if your avatar is floating, you can correct it by pointing the camera at the floor and tapping it. Tap '✕' on the top left.

You will be asked to access the photo, so tap 'Permit'.

A 3DCG avatar is displayed on the scenery taken with the rear camera. Tap the button in the middle of the bottom to start recording. Also, the buttons on the right are for changing facial expressions, hand gesture motion, turning on/off the avatar's walking motion, and menu.

Below is the avatar installed by default, where you can actually change your facial expressions and wave your hands.

And when you actually walk using Odekake AR, it looks like this.

When you walk with your iPhone, the avatar in the camera also walks. Therefore, it feels like an avatar is always walking in front of you.

The key to outing AR is the concept of depth. As shown in the screen below, when a person passes between the avatar and the camera, the avatar will be displayed so as to be hidden from the passerby.

When you turn the screen horizontally, the avatar will be displayed in an orientation that corresponds to the horizontal screen.

This is what it looks like when shooting in landscape mode. The avatar's shadow is also displayed, so shooting outdoors in sunlight will give you a stronger sense of being there.

The schoolgirl avatar in the image is the standard avatar, but you can also use your own avatar. Tap the menu button at the bottom right.

Avatars can be read from

VRoid Hub , Virtual Cast , and local folders. This time I tried loading the avatar from a local folder.

If you want to read the avatar from a local folder, go to 'File' and place the VRM file in the 'Outing AR' folder. This time, I will load

GIGAZINE 's VRM file.

Successfully loaded GIGAZINE-chan. However, perhaps the settings were not adjusted properly, and it was displayed in the T pose.

In the menu, you can also change facial expressions using face tracking, avatar display size, and walking style.

Ambient light, blur effect, and shadow density can also be adjusted. However, please note that the blurring effect that matches the focal length requires considerable processing time.

You can also have your movements reflected in your avatar by capturing motion with Sony's motion tracker '

mocopi .'
