I tried using King Jim's electronic memo 'Boogie Board (papery) BB-18' which is thin and lightweight and can be used just like a sticky note.

A new addition to King Jim's electronic memo '

Boogie Board ' series is the ' Boogie Board (papery) BB-18, ' which is smooth and soft like a paper sticky note. There are two types: S size of 100mm x 100m and M size of 100mm x 150mm, and I was able to borrow a sample from King Jim ahead of its release on February 28, 2024, so I actually tried it out.

This is 'Boogie Board (papery) BB-18', S size starter kit and M size starter kit.

The contents look like this. Two BB-18 bodies, a stylus, app information, and instruction manual.

Also, although it is easy to overlook, there is a stainless steel sheet for pasting on the protruding part of the package.

I compared the M size and stylus of BB-18 with iPhone 15 Pro MAX. The biggest feature of BB-18 is that it is only 0.5mm thick and smooth.

The colored part in the upper left corner of the main unit is slightly thicker.

This is the size difference between size S and size M.

Stylus included in the starter kit.

The tip looks like this. It is not impossible to write by scratching with your fingernail, but there is a high risk of damaging the screen, so please use a stylus.

What's a little unusual is that the terminal is attached to the butt of the stylus.

In this part, if you touch the circle on the top left of BB-18, the written content will be erased.

The power source is 2 AA alkaline batteries, which can be replaced by twisting the clip and removing the screw that comes out. Since the screws are small, a precision screwdriver is required.

The weight of BB-18 M size is 10g.

The weight of the S size is 7g.

The stylus weighs 26g.

No special operations are required when using it; just trace the surface of BB-18 with a stylus to write characters.

The thickness of the drawn line changes depending on the pen pressure. However, be careful not to apply too much pressure as this will damage the surface.

The corner part has a built-in magnet, so you can attach it to things like the refrigerator.

It is also possible to place multiple BB-18s on top of each other. Note that simply overlapping notes will not erase the contents, so you can save space while keeping the memo contents.

You can attach the included stainless steel sheet to areas where magnets cannot be attached. The adhesive sheet on the back cannot be used repeatedly, so this time I attached it with tape.

It looks like this when pasting S size BB-18.

I wrote various notes about how it works when I actually use it.

I also tried using it for drawing purposes. Since I don't have any drawing skills, I draw according to the apple wax drawing song .

It retains the same smooth writing quality as the previous Boogie Board series, but it feels like a real sticky note, making it perfect for people who like to stick small notes flat. The content written on BB-18 cannot be saved as is, but by using the 'Boogie Board SCAN' app, you can scan and import it.

The BB-18 starter kit comes with two main units and a stylus, and the S size costs 4,700 yen excluding tax, and the M size costs 5,400 yen excluding tax. In addition, a set of 3 S size bodies is 5500 yen excluding tax, a set of 3 M size bodies is 6200 yen excluding tax, and a stylus is 2300 yen excluding tax. Release is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
