Previously, Tesla included a clause in the contract for Cybertruck buyers that stated, ``Customer agrees not to sell or attempt to sell the vehicle for a period of one year from the date of delivery of the vehicle.'' It warned that if it violates this, it may be subject to a claim for damages of $50,000 (approximately 7.3 million yen) or the sale price, whichever is greater.

This wording was later removed, but two weeks after Cybertruck sales began, it was reported that the wording had been reinstated. This wording is not written in the contract that is publicly available (PDF file) , but only in the contract handed to the person who actually purchased it.

Tesla has widely adopted clauses prohibiting resale, but only Cybertruck includes a clause regarding compensation for damages. This is said to be due to problems such as the possibility that Tesla cars may have been purchased in the past for the purpose of reverse engineering, and the prevalence of fraudulent purchases simply for the purpose of profiting from resale. Masu.

Tesla is not the only company that prohibits the resale of cars, but other companies such as Ford also do the same. Ford sued actor John Cena in 2017 for reselling a custom-built car, which the company later settled.

There are several versions of Tesla's Cybertruck, and some believe that only the highest-ranked 'Foundation' model is prohibited from resale and may be subject to claims for damages. It is reported that this Foundation model will be sold in a limited edition of 1000 units, and the price is $ 120,000 (about 17 million yen). This is more than twice the cheapest model of $ 49,890 (about 7.3 million yen). Accordingly, it is said to be a fully equipped model, including 'premium accessories' and self-driving (FSD) functions.
