I actually bought and received the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8, so I did a thorough comparison of how they differ from the Pixel 7 by opening the product version and reviewing the exterior photos.

I quickly pre-ordered Google's genuine smartphones ' Google Pixel 8 ' and ' Google Pixel 8 Pro ' on the day they were announced, and they were delivered to the editorial department on October 12, 2023, the release date. In addition to improving operability by adopting a flat display for the main body design, the core chipset has been upgraded from the previous model's Tensor G2 to G3, and the AI function has significantly evolved. First of all, I decided to open it, thoroughly check the contents, and compare what had changed visually from the previous model.

◆Opening ceremony
Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro came in a box like this.

Let's take a look inside the Pixel 8 box. First, the Pixel 8 itself.

Two types of pouches of Google Store exclusive goods.

One side of the pouch is a drawstring bag.

The other is a shoulder pouch.

The pouch opens and closes magnetically, and there are two sleeves inside.

25th anniversary pin badge.

The badge has a simple but cute design.

Next, we will open the box of the Pixel 8 body.

When I took out the main unit, the accessories were stored in the box.

This is Pixel 8. We will check the appearance of the smartphone in detail later by comparing it with the previous model, so we will continue to check the set contents here.

Quick switch adapter and USB Type-C cable to convert from USB Type-A to USB Type-C. The cable length is 1 meter.

SIM tools and guides.

There are two colors available: Hazel (left) and Obsidian (right).

I also purchased a genuine case for Obsidian as an accessory.

The case looks like this.

I installed it.

The camera bar is well protected and the buttons are not difficult to press.

Pixel 8 fits comfortably in the pouch.

The length of the shoulder strap can be changed to 3 levels.

It seems convenient to quickly take out your smartphone.

Next, let's look at Pixel 8 Pro.

Opened.

The set contents were the same as Pixel 8.

The colors I chose were Bay (left) and Obsidian (right).

I also ordered a case with my Pixel 8 Pro.

When installed, it will look like this.

◆Checking the appearance
From here, we will check the appearance of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in detail.

The Pixel 8 measures 150.5 mm in height x 70.8 mm in width x 8.9 mm in thickness, and weighs 187 g.

The distinctive camera bar is equipped with a wide-angle camera with a resolution of 50MP and an ultra-wide-angle camera with a resolution of 12MP.

There is a power button and a volume button on the left side.

On the right side is the SIM card tray.

There are no interfaces other than a small microphone hole on the top.

At the bottom there is a USB Type-C port and a lower speaker sandwiching it.

Next, let's check out the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 8 Pro measures 162.6mm high x 76.5mm wide x 8.8mm thick and weighs 213g.

The camera bar is equipped with a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 48MP wide-angle camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera.

The camera bar and sides are made of metal. Power button and volume button on the left side.

There is a SIM card tray on the right side.

The top looks like this. Unlike the Pixel 8, the mmWave antenna cover is visible.

At the bottom there is a USB Type-C port and a speaker.

The Pixel 8 has a glossy back and a matte finish on the camera bar, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a matte finish on the back and a glossy camera bar.

The display size is 6.2 inches for Pixel 8 and 6.7 inches for Pixel 8 Pro.

◆Comparison with previous model
Next, we will compare the appearance of the Pixel 8 series with the previous model.

Pixel 8 (left) has a height of 150.5 mm, while Pixel 7 (right) has a height of 155.6 mm, making Pixel 8 about 5 mm more compact.

The thickness of Pixel 8 is 8.9mm, while Pixel 7 is 8.7mm.

When you flip it over, you can see that the Pixel 8 rises slightly higher.

Both Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 have flat displays.

Next is a comparison between Pixel 8 Pro (left) and Pixel 7 Pro (right). The size of the Pixel 8 Pro is 162.6 mm high x 76.5 mm wide x 8.8 mm thick, while the Pixel 7 Pro is 162.9 mm high x 76.6 mm wide x 8.9 mm thick, so there is almost no change in appearance.

Both are equipped with triple cameras, but the Pixel 8 Pro's camera bar has a temperature sensor that the Pixel 7 Pro does not have.

The biggest difference between the two models is that the Pixel 7 Pro has an edge display with smooth corners, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a flat display like the Pixel 8. When you reflect light off the edges of the screen, you can see that the Pixel 8 Pro display in the foreground has sharper corners. As a result, the edges of the Pixel 8 Pro's screen are no longer distorted, and the risk of incorrect operation due to fingers touching the edges of the display when holding the smartphone is also reduced.

We also plan to review benchmarks, photo-taking functions, and various more detailed AI functions. stay tuned!
