In response, the court ordered the girl to be held in a juvenile detention center until the trial is over.

Mr. Ligon's family released the following statement:

“Naima was a beautiful, smart, funny and unique girl who loved life. Naima had just been hired by Krispy Kreme Donuts and was preparing to get her driver's license.'

“The impact of this senseless loss is affecting our families, friends and communities. Naima will never go through prom or graduation. You cannot give birth to.”

“If I had a message to parents of children, it would be, ‘Please treat your children with love. As your child walks out the door, make sure to show them your love. I don't know when I will see my children for the last time. We love Naima and will miss her incredibly. She left a lasting mark on our hearts. We pray for our family, our friends in Naima, and the family of the young woman who lost her life. ”
