A team of Olotu, Ben Nasse, and Nolan Yee, who attend the same high school, have been working hard on web development for the 2023 TSA Webmaster Contest. In the TSA webmaster contest, local teams first compete against each other, and the winning team advances to the state contest, and if it wins there as well, it can advance to the national competition. From the beginning of December, when he was in his second year of high school, the whole team was passionate about web development, and they were sure that they would be able to go all over the country.
Olotu's team developed the official website of a fictitious company called 'Armstrong'. ``Space Tourism: a company that will make you an astronaut.'' It's content.
The website developed by Olotu is hosted from GitHub and can actually be seen below.

Olotu and his team excitedly waited for the day of the screening, believing that they would be able to pass the regional qualifiers. I just realized there isn't. Mr. Olotu who was confused said that he contacted TSA's regional coordinator by e-mail on February 20 (Monday). Then, the coordinator replied, 'Your entry has been disqualified for'use of template engine website, tool, and site'.'
However, Olotu and others coded the website with their own hands and did not use templates. Olotu thinks that something is wrong and inserts a link to the GitHub repository in the footer of the website to increase reliability. I sent an email asking them to reconsider, explaining their website again and asking what caused the disqualification. However, the coordinator replied, 'The decision is final,' and no reconsideration was allowed.
Olotu said, ``The words that describe the feelings of the entire team at that time were 'disappointment', 'confusion' and 'defeat'. Because I was able to do it,' he said, and after that he sent an email to the regional coordinator to inquire about the situation. The coordinator replied that the high school technology education teacher had been told the reason for the disqualification.
When Mr. Olotu visited the school and explained the current situation, the teacher replied, ``Yes, I was the one who judged your submissions. It seems that he pointed out that it is also stated in the official rule book (PDF file) of the TSA webmaster contest.
If you actually check the rulebook, it says, ``The use of template engine websites and tools, and sites that generate HTML from text, markdown, or scripts ( Webs , Wix , Weebly , GitHub , Jekyll , Replit ) is not permitted. etc.)” is noted.
Certainly Olotu and others used GitHub to host their code and website, but they did not use it as a template engine. Surprised by this rule, Olotu sarcastically said, ``You may have heard it for the first time, but GitHub is not an industry standard hosting service that uses Git for code collaboration and version control. It's a great template engine.'
Olotu explained to the faculty that GitHub was only used to host the code and website, and that there is evidence that they created the website from scratch. However, the teacher said that it was too late and told him to try again next year.
Unfortunately, I could not participate in the TSA webmaster contest, but when I posted the series of events on Reddit, an overseas bulletin board, I received words of encouragement and advice from many people. In addition, it is said that the website created as a result had more than 30,000 accesses in one day.
