``GIGAZINE Manga Award'' Recruitment started in January 2023 & totaled applications in 2022
In 2023, the GIGAZINE Manga Award is also accepting applications for manga, original script, portfolio drawing and name composition by deadline every month. While some works will reach their final round in 2023, we are also planning new serializations and resuming serializations , so please apply for works that will participate in them. I tried to tally the application trends for the 2022 GIGAZINE Manga Awards
In 2022, about 120 applications have been sent to the GIGAZINE Manga Award. Thank you to those who tried to apply and those who considered applying.
About 20% of the submitted works are manga works, and genres include fantasy, science fiction, horror, and modern everyday things. The three works that passed the first screening were ``Slightly Sexy Brave Fantasy,'' ``Surreal Sci-Fi with a Unique Atmosphere,'' and ``Nichijou Romantic Comedy While Making a Game.'' increase.
In 2022, the proportion of screenplay submissions was particularly high, with about 52% of the submitted works being original script submissions, of which about half were screenplays with only dialogue and writing, and the remaining half were novels. Roughly categorized by genre, fantasy accounted for about 43% of all screenplay submissions, half of which were high fantasy that unfolds in a fantasy world, low fantasy that elements of fantasy appear in the modern world, and modern world. It was the contents of the remaining half, including the transition and reincarnation that departed from the fantasy world. Next to fantasy, the most common was science fiction, which depicts the future where technology has developed from the modern world, accounting for about 19% of the script submissions. The rest of the entries were horror/mystery stories in which spooky elements and mysterious mysteries erode everyday life, everyday things including romantic comedies and club members, and other works of various tastes that are difficult to classify.
In addition, we received multiple applications for name composition and manga drawing by portfolio. One person has been selected as a winner in 2022, and we are preparing for future serialization. We will send you a portfolio for the name composition and drawing application, and after passing the first screening, you will be asked to draw a work based on the actual script, so please feel free to apply with your portfolio first.
And there were 15 applications for remote carry-in, which started in 2021. For some of these works, we actually have a meeting with the editor about the work in the form of a remote meeting, and the completed work is submitted to the Manga Award and passes the screening. ・Completely remote and leave the work timing to us
・Since serialized manga will be posted on GIGAZINE, you can read it first
- No strict deadlines, easy to schedule
・No restrictions on genre or target, anything is OK as long as it is interesting
・ Equipped with assistants who can entrust coloring and backgrounds (no need to pay for yourself)
・Because it is still a young label, it is easy for opinions and requests to pass through like a venture company!
・ For those who are worried about working as a freelancer, such as 'I don't have knowledge about law or tax, but is it okay?' or 'What about serialization work with editing?' ・ Assuming that it can be read on a smartphone (no double-page spread, vertical scroll standard)
・Full-color, full-digital (black-and-white works may be treated as 'original works', but submissions themselves are welcome)
・It must be a complete manuscript of 'Episode 1' and its making materials , regardless of genre. For making-of materials, please send character designs, settings, and a synopsis of the entire story in the range of 200 to 800 characters. Please note that the screening process may not proceed if there is insufficient information in the application.

・Screening process:
After the first selection by the editorial department, the following screening process is planned. The review process and stages are subject to change, and we will send you a separate explanation and confirmation prior to the first stage review.
Stage 1: Evaluation in a closed environment that can only be viewed by GIGAZINE secret club members + Evaluation including making materials by the editorial department

Stage 2: Judging after adding necessary items such as 'first episode manuscript' and 'plot up to the final episode' in a format that is more conscious of serialization. At the stage where we have made it this far, we promise to serialize in some form or another.

Final stage: In the serialized manuscript, the editor-in-chief of GIGAZINE + evaluation by members of the GIGAZINE secret club + guests such as authors serialized in GIGAZINE will be judged comprehensively to determine the grand prize winner. In addition, we will guarantee the serialization when it remains in the final stage.

Everyone who passed the first screening and was selected for the first stage:
Prize money 30,000 yen
Advance to the second stage:
Additional prize money of 20,000 yen + editorial charge for serialization
Finalists:
Additional prize money of 50,000 yen (total of 100,000 yen) at the time of advancing to the final stage + commitment to serialize after brushing up the submitted work

For works that proceed to the first stage screening, we will contact you by the end of the month following the application month to the e-mail address used for the application with details of the screening.
In other cases, please note that we basically do not notify applicants of the screening results.
・Flow after receiving the award
After posting in serial form on GIGAZINE, we will convert it into an e-book and sell it on Amazon. We will pay the prescribed manuscript fee and royalty. GIGAZINE is also responsible for selling and advertising e-books.

◆ Application for drawing, name composition, drawing help
・ How to apply for “drawing only”:
All you have to do is show us your portfolio URL and collection of works on the Manga Award application form . In the 'Others' column, please write 'Apply for drawing only'. There is no limit on the number of illustrations and manga for portfolios, and there is no line that says you need more than one, but the more you have, the easier it is to get a good evaluation.
・ How to apply for 'Name Composition Manager'
We are also looking for a 'name composition' that uses the original script of the text as the name. As with drawings only, please send as much as possible about your portfolio, titles of works you have created in the past, and manga works.
・Judging flow for “drawing only” and “name composition”:
We will contact you by the next month after submitting the form for the works that have passed the first stage screening after looking at the portfolio, so we will ask you to actually draw a trial original in the second stage screening, and after passing the final stage voting screening. to.

* Due to the nature of the original script, it may not be possible to get it serialized immediately, but we promise to serialize it in the form of a priority proposal.
・How to apply for help:
We are also looking for help to support the production of full-color manga. Undercoating of characters, text placement, and background help are also welcome. You can participate only at the possible timing while staying at home completely remotely.
・Conditions :
None. It is possible to not participate during busy periods because the flow is ``If you can work, select what you will accept from the task list and work on it''.
In addition, it is also OK to create original works and propose them to the editor while earning money and improving skills while participating as a helper.
・Reward :
Hourly wages are calculated with work management software for 'coloring help' and 'background help'. The hourly wage will be set as a trial period at first, and then increased depending on the work proficiency and the number of contributions.
In the case of 'name structure', the manuscript fee is calculated per page.
・ How to apply :
From the GIGAZINE Manga Award application form , please paste the URL that allows you to view the 'color manuscripts and portfolios you have worked on in the past' instead of the 'address / URL for downloading the work file'. ◆Original script application requirements
・In addition to the first episode manuscript , please prepare the plot (synopsis) from the first episode to the final episode . For the synopsis, please describe the flow of the entire work in detail on the first page of the manuscript in 100 to 800 characters.
・In the first judging, we will look at the fun of a simple story and the completeness of one story. If you proceed from the second screening to the final screening, we will judge whether you can consistently create a storyline script up to the final episode, with an awareness of actually creating a manga original.
・If you are applying for 'original only' and text only, please paste the text into a Google document and then write the address of the shared link on the application form. In that case, please do not edit the document after applying.
・Make sure your Google sharing settings are set to 'Anyone with the link'. If you leave it as 'restricted', you will not be able to read the submitted work. For more information, check 'Share files publicly' in Google Docs Help .
