Thorough verification of the battery performance of the action camera 'Osmo Action 3' with excellent cost performance, can it withstand high image quality & long shooting?

The action camera '

Osmo Action 3 ', which can be bought at the 40,000 yen level for movie shooting at 4K / 120 fps, has a powerful blur correction function at a relatively inexpensive price. On the official website of such Osmo Action 3, it was also appealing that it has a battery that can shoot for a long time, so I actually shot a movie and checked the battery duration.

With Osmo Action 3, you can set the shooting resolution and frame rate individually, and you can shoot movies of up to 4K / 120fps. Therefore, while shooting a movie at 4K / 120fps, Osmo Action 3 was placed in a room with a room temperature of 24 degrees to verify the continuous shooting time.

As a result of verification, about 43 minutes after the start of shooting, a forced termination due to high temperature was triggered before the battery ran out. Also, when the temperature when the forced termination was activated was measured with an infrared thermography, the periphery of the lens rose to 64.7 degrees, and I felt quite hot when I touched it. Although the data that had been shot until the forced termination was saved normally, shooting could not be resumed until the aircraft cooled down, so when shooting a 4K / 120fps movie, it is recommended to refrain from continuous shooting for a long time.

Next, I changed the shooting settings to 4K / 60fps, attached it to a commercially available base mount, attached it to my chest, and shot until the battery ran out while climbing a mountain with a temperature of about 20 degrees.

The movie actually shot is below. We were able to keep shooting for 66 minutes.

As a result of the verification, it was found that continuous shooting of about 1 hour is possible with the shooting setting of 4K / 60fps. Osmo Action 3 also has a model 'Adventure Combo' that comes with a total of 3 batteries and a battery charging case, and by replacing the battery, it is possible to shoot a 4K / 60fps movie for up to 3 hours.

In addition, as a result of shooting a mountain climbing movie with the same settings with the action camera 'GoPro HERO11 Black' released at the same time as Osmo Action 3, we recorded a battery duration of 64 minutes, which is almost the same as Osmo Action 3. You can check the details of the battery of GoPro HERO11 Black in the following article.
