Is the chip with the misspelling sticker 'Megatrands' that gives off a fake feeling a counterfeit product?

During a review of Dell's network switches, ServeTheHome (STH), an IT news site that accidentally discovered a misspelling sticker on a chip, reported the result of asking the manufacturer for the reason for the strange misspelling.

Dude this should NOT be in a Dell Switch ... or HPE Supercomputer

It all started with a review video of the Dell EMC PowerSwitch S5232F-ON released by STH on October 4, 2021.

Harry Johnson, a viewer of the STH movie, added a comment to the movie that questioned, 'The BMC has a sticker called'American Megatrands'. What is this?'

Below is a sticker with a misspelling pointed out in the comments. The brand name that should be written as 'AMERICAN MEGATR E NDS' is 'AMERICAN MEGATR A NDS'.

Later, STH's Patrick Kennedy, who discovered similar stickers on four models of the same Dell 'S5200-ON' series, immediately contacted American Megatrends, but the answer was irrelevant. So STH met with a Dell representative on October 19th to ask if he was aware of the misspelling and said, 'If you don't get an answer within 24 hours, we'll publish this issue.' I did.

Kennedy set a 24-hour deadline to test if Dell had been aware of the issue before. Kennedy, who has many years of management consulting experience at a major tech company, said, 'This problem is for Dell because it requires coordination involving a large number of companies in order for a large company like Dell to clarify its attitude. If it's a known bug, you only need to get approval for the answer, but if it's an unknown bug, it should take time to answer. '

The next day, Dell contacted Mr. Kennedy that he was 'under investigation.' In other words, although it was not in time for the response deadline, Mr. Kennedy decided to suspend the publication of this matter for a while because he was able to extract information from Dell that 'American Megatrends admitted a misspelling'. Did.

And on October 21, Kennedy received a formal misspelling document from the Taiwan branch of American Megatrends. The first page of the document is below.

In a statement, American Megatrends acknowledged that the label was mislabeled and assured that the mislabeled label was legally valid and that the product was not a fake or counterfeit product. It was also stated that products with stickers with typographical errors will continue to be shipped for the time being.

From the findings, Kennedy pointed out that Dell couldn't find spelling mistakes at any stage in the supply chain: 'Many people aren't visible when the

Bloomberg spy chip turmoil occurs in 2018. I was afraid of spy chips, but Dell's devices had many years of visible flaws left behind. Concerns about invisible spy chips if the industry couldn't find such an overt glitch. It is natural that the number will increase. '

In addition, Mr. Kennedy inquired to HPE as well as Dell, but he said that HPE did not meet.

Kennedy said, 'Dell is It has done a good job of clarifying the truth of this issue, but HPE is completely behind, 'he said, blaming the company's response, which may be disregarding quality assurance.
