At Apple's new product launch event held in October 2021, the redesigned 'MacBook Pro' was announced along with the 3rd generation AirPods and the high-performance SoC 'M1 Pro & M1 Max'. It turns out that the 'notch at the top of the display,' which is a major feature of this new MacBook Pro, can be disabled with standard macOS features.

The MacBook Pro, which was newly announced in October 2021, is available in two models, 14-inch and 16-inch. Both models have abolished the touch-type interface 'Touch Bar' mounted on the keyboard, and magnets. The design has changed significantly from the conventional MacBook Pro, such as the resurrection of the sticky charging port 'MagSafe'. Among such many design changes, the notch (notch part) that is installed in the iPhone series has been added to the display. As a result, the MacBook Pro has succeeded in expanding the display area, leaving the camera part at the top of the display.

However, users who have actually used a MacBook Pro with a notch have reported a problem that the software menu is hidden under the notch and cannot be selected.

Apple published a solution to this 'menu hiding under the notch' on its official support page on October 27, 2021. In the following tweet posted by designer Joseph , you can see how the problem is actually solved according to the description on the support page.

Go to the software info screen where the 'Menu hides under the notch' issue and enable the option 'Scale to fit below built-in camera.'

After that, when you start the set software ...

Both sides of the camera are painted black, giving the appearance of a notch that didn't exist from the beginning. This will prevent the menu from hiding under the notch.

However, if you use this method, you will not be able to make effective use of the display area to the left and right of the notch.

According to Apple, if the software supports a notch-equipped display, the notch disable option will disappear.
