Details of the changes in Krita 5.0 can be found in the release notes.
First, the system that Krita handles resources such as brush presets, gradients, and palettes has been completely rewritten. As a result, although the start is delayed when the resource is executed for the first time, the information is cached there, so that it can be used at high speed in subsequent executions, and at the same time, the amount of working memory used can be reduced. that's right.
The resource system has changed not only in comfort but also in convenience such as UI. You can freely manage resources by tagging brushes and palettes in a batch, and you can back up using a USB memory because it is easy to arrange each folder.
Next, the gradients are dithered to quickly set the color swatches, allowing you to use colors from smoothed patterns.
The gradient editor has also been improved to be more compact, with the addition of options that make it easier than ever to create gradients.
Not only the illustrations, but also the functions for creating animations have changed significantly. In addition to the redesigned timeline to improve visual clarity and intuitive operation, we have added a 'clone frame' that has been requested by animators, and imported movies as animations for training and training. It seems that other small operability improvements and convenience improvements have been implemented, such as being able to perform tracing.
As a further update on creating animations, a storyboard 'Docker' that can be used to plan movie cuts, animation storyboards, etc. has been added. With Docker, you can add annotations and explanations to the scene, and you can also output and share it as a PDF.
In addition, various tools have been added to support the production of works. 'Two-point perspective assistant' that can give a three-dimensional effect and depth by keeping vanishing points on the horizon at appropriate intervals and drawing a grid that helps visualize perspective distortion.
When transforming a layer with the conversion tool, the 'in-stack conversion preview' makes the change easier to understand by making the layer before the change transparent to the back.
In addition, a command that makes it easy to draw freely while rotating the ellipse has been added, and a tool that has received user requests and dissatisfaction, such as being able to use the option to crop while leaving the layer and canvas with the crop tool. And UI have been updated multiple times.
You can download the beta version of Krita 5.0 from the release announcement page. The official version of Krita 5.0, which fixes the problem that occurred in the beta version, is scheduled for September 2021.
