On July 14, 2021 local time, Google announced 'Android 12 Beta 3'. The announcement of Beta 3 is on schedule, which was announced when the preview version for developers was announced. According to this schedule, the final beta version will be released in August 2021.

Here are some of the new features that Google has highlighted in Android 12 Beta 3.

◆ Crawling screenshot
When taking a screenshot of a page that requires scrolling, a 'scrolling screenshot' has been added that allows you to take everything from top to bottom in one. When taking a screenshot, a 'Capture more' button has been added to expand the shooting range to the entire content, and it is also possible to adjust the shooting range by trimming.

Scrolling screenshots are available out-of-the-box for most apps, such as apps that use the standard View-based UI, and use the newly introduced ScrollCapture API for apps that use a highly customized UI. To do.

On-device search
Beta 3 now supports the new high-performance on-device search engine ' AppSearch ' on the platform. AppSearch indexes structured data and enables searches using the built-in full-text search function. In addition, you can take advantage of native features such as efficient indexing and searching, multilingual support, and relevance ranking. There are two types of AppSearch, a 'local index' that is backward compatible and a 'central index' that is maintained throughout the system since Android 12, and if you join the central index, the system will be an app unless you select opt out. Data can be displayed on the system UI surface. It is also possible to share the data with other apps so that the app can search the user's data.

Window Insets privacy indicator API
Beta 2 now displays a privacy indicator in the status bar when the app uses the device's camera or microphone. However, if the app was in full screen mode and the privacy indicator was displayed, it could hide controls and content, so adjustments were needed. Window Insets' new privacy indicator API added in Beta 3 determines the maximum range and on-screen placement of privacy indicators, taking into account current orientation, language settings, and more.

Camera and microphone toggle settings (for companies)
Beta 2 introduced a toggle that instantly turns off camera and microphone access to all apps. Beta 3 has released settings for full device management for enterprise administrators.

Introducing new permissions for apps paired with the CDM to launch foreground services
To help apps paired with Companion Device Manager (CDM) better support companion apps that perform core functions, we've introduced permissions to launch foreground services from the background.

◆ Improvement and speedup of automatic rotation function
The face detection function using the front camera makes it possible to more accurately recognize the timing of automatic rotation of the screen. This feature is especially suitable for people who use the device while lying on the sofa or bed. This auto-rotation feature will be included in the 'Private Compute Core ' announced in May 2021, so no facial images will be saved to or sent from your device. In Beta 3, this feature is available on Pixel 4 and later Pixel series.

We also optimized animation and redrawing and added a machine learning gesture detection algorithm to improve screen rotation speed on all devices. As a result, apart from the improvement of the automatic rotation function mentioned above, the waiting time of the automatic rotation function has been reduced by 25%.

◆ Game function
The new Game Mode API allows you to select performance profiles, such as battery-saving settings for long commute times and performance settings for peak frame rates. Also coming soon is the Game Dashboard, an overlay that works with the Game Mode API to give you quick access to key utilities during gameplay.

In addition, 'Play as you Download ' will be added to allow you to play the game even during installation. This feature is explained in detail in the following articles.
