Up Spell, a game app for iOS, is distributed on the App Store for 250 yen, so I actually installed and played it.

After accessing the Up Spell page of the App Store, tap '¥ 250'.

Tap 'Open' when the installation is complete.

The following screen will be displayed at the first startup, so tap 'OK'.

Tap 'PLAY' to start the game.

The rules for Up Spell are simple, just tap the alphabets at the bottom of the screen to create English words. The numbers at the bottom of the alphabet indicate the score when using the alphabet.

After creating an English word, tap the center of the screen.

Then you will get points. In this case, 'R' 1 point, 'E' 1 point, 'E' 1 point, 'L' 2 points, a total of 5 points. Since there is one '2x' there, the score is doubled to 10 points. The key to a high score is how to use the high-scoring alphabet and the '2x' alphabet.

If you can't make English words well, tap the trash can icon at the top right of the screen to replace the alphabet cards.

The play time is 2 minutes, and the final score will be displayed on top of the message 'GAME OVER'.

When you actually play Up Spell, it will look like the following movie.

A game app that is very similar to this Up Spell is 'Onword'. Onword is an app that was included in the prototype of the 4th generation iPod touch released in 2010. Apple also released the online service ' Game Center ' in 2010, and the iPod touch to test its API. What was installed in the prototype.

The Onword screen is on the left, and the Up Spell screen is on the right.

In addition, Dan Pods of the YouTube channel that got the prototype of the 4th generation iPod touch has released a movie of how to actually play Onword. You can check how to play Onword from around 8 minutes 58 seconds in the following movie.

9to5Mac says, 'Surprisingly, Onword / Up Spell is an independent title by Kocienda. Apps created by Apple for internal development are rarely released as official apps. Two The user interface of the app is almost the same, and I personally want to know how the internal tools came to the App Store about 10 years later. '
