'Everdell Extended Pearl Cove Complete Japanese Version' is an extended version, and you need the basic set 'Everdell' to play. You can find out what kind of game 'Everdell' is and what the basic rules were by reading the following articles.

'Everdell' review to create your own city with animals and buildings using wood, sap, pebbles and fruits --GIGAZINE

◆ Opening
The package depicts a frog swimming in the river.

It is assumed that the number of players is 1 to 4, the target age is 14 years old and over, and the play time is 60 to 90 minutes.

The inside of the box has a light blue design, and there is also a transparent partition, which makes it look like the surface of the water.

It contained rule manuals, river boards, overwrite cards, frog ambassador pieces, worker pieces, pearl tokens, monument tiles, and cards.

The river board has a shape close to a half moon and is used in combination with the game board of the basic set.

The overwrite card looks like this. This is also used in combination with the game board of the basic set.

The six added worker pieces are ocher in the shape of an otter.

The frog ambassador's top is a total of 6 colors, including the 4 colors of the worker's top of the basic set, the ocher color of this expansion, and black. There is no turn because there is no black worker piece, but it seems that it will be used in the expansion for 6 players.

25 pearl tokens. It is light, hard and has a beautiful color.

The monument token looks like this. It is shaped like a gate and a fountain.

The cards are roughly divided into four, from the left of the image are 'building card', 'animal card', 'river exchange card', and 'decoration card'.

Building cards and animal cards have exactly the same design on the back, and you can mix and play with the cards in the basic set.

Of the animal cards, the two cards labeled 'Judge' are used in place of the cards with the same name in the basic set, and some of the effects may differ due to rule revisions. The image on the left is the expanded version, and the image on the right is the basic set.

The river exchange card is divided into 'residents' and 'facilities', but the back side has the same design.

There are 8 decorative cards, and the back side is also the same.

◆ Preparation
First, we will assemble the basic set. Expand the game board, place an eternal tree, and line up special event cards, material tokens, and forest cards.

Stick the river board to the left side of the game board.

Separate the resident card and facility card of the river exchange card, shuffle them separately, and draw two cards face down from each. Shuffle them together and place them face down on the river board one by one.

Place the pearl tokens together on top of the river board, and place one pearl token on each of the river exchange cards you just lined up.

Place the overwrite card near the base of the eternal tree so that it overlaps the already drawn picture. This will 'overwrite' the basic event being drawn. Then place the monument token on the overwrite card.

Shuffle the decorative cards together and deal two to each player. Check the contents of the dealt decorative card and keep it face down.

The rest is as in the basic set. Shuffle the building and animal cards, place them as mountains under the eternal tree, draw 8 and line them up in the square. After deciding the starting player, draw cards from the pile in order. When you receive a worker piece, you will also receive one frog ambassador piece of the same color.

The preparation was completed in about 15 minutes. This time there are four players, player 1 is red, player 2 is white, player 3 is ocher, and player 4 uses dark brown worker pieces.

◆ Start playing
The flow of the game is the same as the basic set. Each player collects resources by placing worker pieces in 'forests' and 'forest paths'.

If you pay the resources for the number drawn on the left side of the card, you can put the card in your hand from your hand or pile, which is called 'play'. For example, the image card 'Homing Pigeon' can be played by paying two purple 'Fruit Tokens'. When playing, the effect written on the card will be activated.

The cards you play are lined up one after another, and the cards make up the 'city'. Only 15 cards can be placed in the city, so you need to be careful when choosing which cards to play.

The seasons will change for players who have left all the worker pieces and have no more to do. Collect all the placed worker pieces and frog ambassador pieces, and receive additional pieces from the placed worker pieces in the eternal tree. As the season progresses, the number of workers on hand will increase, and your turn will also increase. The season that started in winter passes through spring, summer, and autumn, and the game ends when all players finish autumn.

In the extended version, as an action, instead of placing a worker piece, you can place a frog ambassador piece in a dedicated square with frog footprints. However, you must have at least two cards in your city that are the same as the marks drawn on the squares.

Turn one face down river exchange card next to you face up and get one pearl token on top. At this time, if the effect written on the card can be activated, it will be activated arbitrarily. From now on, the card will remain face up, and players who place the Frog Ambassador piece on the square will be able to activate the effects of the River Exchange card. However, since this square is an 'occupied land' where only one piece can be placed, other players cannot place it in the same square until the frog ambassador piece is collected at the turn of the season.

The dark brown player also placed a frog ambassador piece to win a pearl token and flipped the river exchange card. The river exchange card 'Hall' pays 1 victory point token and 1 pebble token, and gets 4 cards and 1 pearl token. You can make a lot of profits with less resources.

The effect of the building card 'Bridge' added in the expanded version may increase the possession limit of your hand, and you may be able to benefit from just possessing pearl tokens. When calculating the final score, you will also get 2 victory points for each pearl token.

You can also spend 1 pearl token to use 1 ornament card. There are two effects written on the ornament card, the upper effect is applied when using the card, and the lower effect is applied at the end of the game and when calculating the score. With the effect of the ornament card 'Mask', I played the card 'Ferry' with a victory point of '2' from my hand. However, the same ornament card can only be used once during the game.

The effect of 'Ferry' is to copy the effect of one face-up river exchange card and use it as a substitute square. Even if the square of the river exchange card you want to use is filled, this card will be a substitute.

If you really want pearl tokens, you can get 1 pearl token by placing 1 frog ambassador piece in a square called 'shallow', paying 2 resource tokens, and discarding 2 cards from your hand. The cost of payment is very high and it is a difficult method to use.

Other cards unique to the extended version include 'Pirate Ship'. If you put a worker piece on the 'pirate ship', it will move to the city of other players together with the card, and it will continue to occupy a part of the city. Furthermore, if the player who owns the destination city has pearl tokens, resource tokens and victory points will be obtained according to the number. Although it does not steal resources from the player, the appearance of invading the opponent's compartment and obtaining resources is exactly the pirate itself. To remove the pirate ship, you need to wait for the worker pieces placed on it to be collected, relocate your pieces, and move them to another player's city.

There is also a card 'Pirate' that accompanies the 'Pirate Ship'. This card is a highly gambling card that you can get 1 pearl token if you discard 4 cards from your hand, then draw 4 cards from the mountain, and if the total victory points of the 4 cards drawn are 7 points or more. The player who used it achieved the condition brilliantly and got one pearl token.

There are more variations in the development of the Everdell Valley, such as sending pirate ships and trading with frog ambassadors.

At the end of the game, there was a player who got 25 points at once by the monument token 'Meteor Flame'. If you get a monument token with a high victory point, there is a good chance that you can aim for a reversal.

The game is over. The player who earned a lot of points from the meteor flame won with 105 points, and the lowest player with 54 points. Thanks to the big victory points of the monument token and the effect of 'getting victory points at the end of the game' of the ornament card, you do not know who is the winner until the end, and everyone can enjoy it until the end. There are only a limited number of ways to get pearls, but if you use them well, the difference in points will be filled. Some players who have played the core set said, 'I didn't lose the balance of the core set, I could do more, and my small complaints were resolved.'

'Everdell Extended Pearl Cove Complete Japanese Version' is on sale for 6800 yen excluding tax.
