'Dice Forge: Rebellion' review aiming to win the game of goddesses and giants while customizing dice and controlling luck

Hobby Japan Games has released 'Dice Forge: Rebellion ', which is an expanded version of

'Dice Forge ' that controls the play of the gods while rearranging the dice used in the game and incorporating even the probability into the strategy. Playing a combination of luck and strategy I actually played it to see how much the board game has evolved in the extended version.

Freely customize the dice, even luck on your side and incorporate it into your strategy Board game 'Dice Forge' Opening Ceremony & Review of Actual Play --GIGAZINE

Dice Forge: The Rebellion package looks like this.

The target age is 10 years old and over, the number of players is 2 to 4, and the play time is assumed to be 60 minutes.

I opened the box and found the rule manual and the cardboard containing the tokens and additional boards.

Since the cardboard has cuts, it can be removed without a cutter or scissors.

The components fit neatly in the box.

A case to store the event board and additional dice faces.

Sky dice and additional dice faces, additional cards

In addition, there is one additional resource marker for each color.

The sky die is not a type that can replace the die face like a normal die, but the eyes are printed as it is.

When you put the additional dice face in the case, it looks like this.

Dice Forge: Rebellion can play two game modes, 'Goddess Labyrinth ' and ' Giant Rebellion ', each with different cards. The one with a brown diamond in the corner on the back of the card is the card for the Labyrinth of the Goddess, and the one with the blue inverted triangle is the card for the giant's rebellion.

And each card has a 'moon' or 'sun' icon in the corner of the surface. The fact that the card has two attributes, 'moon' and 'sun', is the same as the basic set.

You can separate the cards by goddess or giant, and moon or sun, and store them in a box with other tokens, dice faces, etc., as shown in the image below.

◆ I played in the Labyrinth of the Goddess
Four people played the extended game 'Goddess's Labyrinth', which says 'In the play of the gods, Dice Forge, the

uninvited goddess Hera caused a tantrum and directly intervened in the game.' The composition of the first dice face is as follows.

Place additional die faces and event boards on top of the box. In the case of the Goddess Labyrinth, the event board uses a brown sugoroku-like surface. In addition, place as many Golem tokens on the event board as there are players.

Each player board is the same as the basic set.

Place the 'board' that will be the dice face storage in the box of the basic set called 'temple', connect the boxes of Dice Forge: Rebellion called 'underground', and further connect the 'islands' that will be the card storage, and place the cards. Then you're ready to go.

The procedure is almost the same as the basic rule. In each player's turn, '1: Everyone rolls two dice at hand to get resources' '2: Activates a permanent effect card at hand' '3: Dice face or card with resources at hand' 'Purchase' '4: If you pay 2 dice resources, you can perform additional action only once', and perform 4 phases in order. One round ends when everyone's turn is one lap, and in the case of four-player play, the game ends when nine rounds are completed. Ultimately, the player with the highest victory points and card victory points earned so far wins.

The cards used in the Goddess Labyrinth are new cards added in the extended version. For example, the following 'tree nymph' is of the sun Fragment (( piece ) A card that you can get by paying one.

As for the effect of the card, when you get it, you get 4 gold ...

You can immediately pay gold to forge a dice face.

To get victory points, you need to get cards and roll a lot of dice, which requires a lot of resources. Since resources can be obtained by rolling the dice, it is very important to change the dice face in order to gain luck on your side.

Also, what was added in the expanded version is a dice face with +1 written in the blue jewel. When a jewel dice face appears, move the golem token of your own color on the event board by that number. If you move multiple Golem tokens, the effects of all the passed squares will be activated.

The image below shows the golem token moved by one square and stopped at the 'heavenly dice' square.

If you stop at the Sky Dice Mass, you can roll additional Sky Dice.

The sky dice have a dice face with a special effect that ordinary dice do not have. For example, the following rolls can be activated by copying only one dice roll of someone.

In addition, there are red dice face and blue dice face in the jewel dice face. You can also roll the sky dice if you roll two dice and roll the red and blue jewel dice faces at the same time.

In the middle of the game, when a player who put out a jewel face with a set of dice faces rolled the sky dice, he saw that he could upgrade the dice face for free.

However, as the game progressed and everyone's dice forging was proceeding smoothly, there were almost no dice faces in the dice face storage area, and it was impossible to upgrade. Sky dice can activate powerful effects that you can't get with a normal dice face, but they can be completely useless in some situations.

If you reach the goal with a sugoroku on the event board, you can get 15 victory points, and the person who scored first can benefit from activating his favorite eyes with two dice at hand.

However, in this game, 9 rounds have passed without any goal, and the game is over. In the end, the player who actively purchased the cards and accumulated victory points won the championship. In the Labyrinth of the Goddess, a new element called 'Sugoroku on the event board' has been added, but the processing of 'advancing the golem token', 'activating the effect of the sugoroku eyes', and 'rolling the sky dice' has increased accordingly. , It took much longer than the basic rules, and one game took about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

In addition, the dice of the player who put the dice face of the jewel that can be forged by acquiring the card on the dice and participated in the strategy of 'going hard on the event board and rolling the sky dice many times' are as follows. However, despite wearing so many jewel dice faces, I couldn't proceed as planned because I wasn't blessed with the results. Whether the strategy works or fails, it ultimately depends on the luck of the dice, and the key to this game is how to get luck on your side.

◆ I tried playing the giant rebellion
The 'Giant Rebellion' is a game of gods in which a giant who has rebelled against God intervenes and messes up Dice Forge. The cards line up the giant rebel cards.

Turn the event board under the ground upside down and place it with the giant's rebel side facing up as shown below.

The player's dice in the giant rebellion The two dice face composition looks like this.

Just attach an additional board underneath the hero's asset board.

Place additional resource markers on additional boards and receive loyalty tokens of your own color.

Place the Loyalty Token in the center of the event board.

The procedure for proceeding with the giant rebellion is the same as the basic rule. However, the characteristic of the Giants' rebellion is that 'Ancient Fragments' and 'Loyalty' have been added to the resources. Ancient Fragments are an almighty resource that can be used as a substitute for the moon or the sun.

It sounds very convenient to hear that it can be used in place of the moon or the sun, but of course there are disadvantages. Each time you get one Ancient Fragment, you will get one loyalty token on the left side of the event board.

As the loyalty token advances to the left side of the event board, it is considered to be loyal to the giants rather than the gods. Depending on the progress of the board, you may get victory points according to the card acquisition, but the final victory points will be deducted by the number written on the square.

You can get one ancient piece even with the initial configuration of the dice face, but by acquiring cards and forging the dice, you can increase the expected value that you can get the ancient piece.

You need resources to get the cards, so if you want to get a lot of cards even if you are prepared to lose the final victory points, you should actively get the ancient pieces with dice. is.

Also, the 'Guardian' card, which allows you to acquire ancient fragments or loyalty each turn, is also very useful.

Furthermore, if you use the 'priest' card that drags others to the giant side according to the dice roll ...

It is also possible to play obstructive play by dragging a player other than yourself to the giant side and going to scrape the victory points as a person who disobeys the gods.

On the other hand, unlike the ancient fragments, loyalty is not a substitute for the moon or the sun, but by rolling it out with the dice, 'I swore more loyalty to the gods', so I put the loyalty token on the right side of the event board. You can proceed to.

On the gods side, the final victory points will be added by the number written on the square, and there is also a privilege to convert gold into victory points.

While three out of four declared that they would fall into the darkness of a giant, the only player who decided to become a warrior of light who swore allegiance to God was the surplus. A 'blacksmith's tin cane' card that allows you to collect minutes of gold.

Normally, you can only save up to 12 gold, but you can save an additional 6 gold for each blacksmith's scepter. You can even convert gold into lunar or sun resources, depending on how much you have accumulated.

Roll the dice to win gold ...

In addition, we will steadily accumulate victory points by using the 'right hand' card that can be converted into 1 victory point for each gold.

While muttering, 'The world of darkness is wonderful,' he swore allegiance to the giant, and the three who had fallen to the bottom of the darkness had their final victory points deducted by 25 points ...

The player who believed in the light and fought through steadily converted gold into victory points, got additional victory points, and won the championship by far. One game took about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

When I actually played 'The Labyrinth of the Goddess' and 'The Rebellion of the Giants', I realized the high degree of perfection of the basic game. The Labyrinth of the Goddess felt that the process of the horror and sky dice on the event board was busy, making the progress of the game more complicated. However, the gambling ability is improved by rolling the sky dice, and there is an opportunity to make a big reversal by sugoroku, so it seems that there are many elements that are more exciting than the basic game. I felt that it was an ant to enjoy the game of 'being swung around by probability' with the dice playing the leading role.

The Giant's Rebellion is that the loyalty tokens on the event board rarely move because ancient fragments and loyalty are hard to get in the early stages, and by the time the loyalty tokens finally start moving, most of the cards have been acquired. The situation has become such that the additional reward conditions on the giant side cannot be received. Therefore, the merit of the giant side is quite thin, and the point was how to not fall to the giant side and swear allegiance to the gods while making use of the convenient resource of ancient fragments.
