What is the mysterious death game 'Blue Whale' that drives boys and girls all over the world to suicide one after another?

Blue Whale , a suicide game that began gaining popularity in 2013 and gained widespread popularity after a tabloid report in 2016, is a game where challengers follow instructions from an administrator over a 50-day period, completing tasks that ultimately result in suicide. While this game may seem like an urban legend, its influence has grown to the point where Indian authorities are calling for its regulation.

A game using the social networking site ' VK.com ' became popular around 2013, mainly in Russia and Central Asia.

This game has several names, including 'Silent House,' 'A Sea of Whales,' and 'Wake Me Up At 4:20 AM,' but its most famous title is 'Blue Whale.' The name 'Blue Whale' comes from the fact that the act of whales washing ashore in groups is known as 'suicide.' The reason for the whales' strandings remains a mystery.

The gameplay is very simple: challengers reach an 'administrator' in some way, such as by clicking a link on VK.com, and then follow the administrator to complete tasks over the course of 50 days.

At first, the tasks are simple, like 'get up at 4:20 a.m. and watch a horror movie,' but gradually, dangerous tasks such as 'get up at 4:20 a.m. and climb onto a roof,' 'stand on a bridge,' and 'sit on a roof and stick your feet out of a helicopter' are imposed.

There are also many tasks that require self-harm, such as 'cut yourself,' 'cut your lip,' and 'tattoo a whale on your arm.' On the 50th day, the challenger is asked by the supervisor to commit suicide.

In fact, Russian police believe that two women, Yulia Konstantinova and Nika Volkova, committed suicide after being involved with the Blue Whale.

The two committed suicide together by jumping from the 14th floor of their apartment building.

Before committing suicide, Yulia posted a photo of a whale on social media...

He left a message saying 'End.'

Volkova also committed suicide, leaving behind the words 'Sense is lost' and 'End' in Russian.

It is important to note that even though the people who committed suicide were victims of the Blue Whale, it cannot be said that all suicides were caused by the Blue Whale. The people who committed suicide had been anxious or depressed even before playing the game, and they regularly posted comments such as, 'Don't you feel like you're slowly becoming worthless?' It appears that the Blue Whale was a push for people who were already potentially suicidal.

In addition to Konstantinova and Volkova's cases, other suicides that appear to be linked to the Blue Whale have been reported, including a 14-year-old girl who threw herself in front of a commuter train...

There is no proof that these suicides were actually caused by playing Blue Whale.

Meanwhile, the principal of a school reported to the police that he had received an anonymous phone call saying that students were joining a death group and planning to commit suicide. Police then located a girl who said she had been given a task that included self-harm. The girl reportedly did not comply with the task, but it is believed that some people actually did comply with the task.

To verify the facts,

Radio Free Europe contacted the creators of Blue Whale, the 'Death Group,' using a fake VK.com account.

The conversations that took place included: 'I want to play this game,' 'Really? You can't turn back,' 'What do you mean you can't turn back?', 'Once you start playing, you can't stop,' and 'I'm ready.'

'Complete each task seriously without anyone knowing. Send us a photo when you finish the task. At the end of the game, you will die. Are you ready?'

'What if I want to quit?'

'I have all your information, so I'm going after you.'

As soon as the game begins, you'll be given the first task: 'Get the letters F58 engraved on your arm.'

The investigator apparently sent a photo of himself completing the task, which he had created using Photoshop, but perhaps because it was discovered to be fake, he never heard from the person again.

The Blue Whale sparked a moral panic in 2016 when the Russian tabloid

Novaya Gazeta reported that 'Blue Whale was responsible for the suicides of 130 people between November 2015 and April 2016, all of whom were members of the same social media group.'

Novaya Gazeta linked the Blue Whale to suicides because of the large number of suicides among people who belonged to the same social media group, but this number is not considered accurate because boys and girls who are prone to suicide tend to use the same types of social media. They may have committed suicide even if the group did not cause them to do so.

On the other hand, although there is no evidence directly linking suicide to blue whales, the existence of groups of blue whales themselves has been confirmed.

The existence of the Blue Whale became widespread in 2015 when a young girl named Rina Palenkova posted the following photo to social media and then committed suicide shortly afterward: A train can be seen passing by the girl in the photo, and she was subsequently hit and killed by the train.

After the photo above was circulated online, a social media group called 'INSIDER PROJECT' started a rumor that the girl was part of a mass suicide, making her an icon of a cult-like group and bringing the existence of the Blue Whale community online.

The creators of the Blue Whale have stated that they are not trying to make people want to commit suicide, and it is said that their goal may have actually been to attract people to their own web pages.

However, just because we haven't been able to prove a direct link between blue whales and suicide doesn't mean we should discount this string of suicides, since many people are actually committing suicide.

In May 2017, a 21-year-old man named Phillip Budeikin was arrested for organizing eight suicide groups between 2013 and 2016. During the trial, it was alleged that 15 boys and girls committed suicide as a result of these groups, and five attempted suicides were rescued.

Budeikin, also known as Philip Lis, is a psychology major who dropped out of college. According to the BBC and Daily Mail, Budeikin has told police that he considers the victims of the game to be 'biological garbage,' that they 'died willingly,' and that he 'cleaned up society.'

According to Russian authorities, Budeikin, who is currently in custody, has received love letters from young girls. 'It's highly likely that the girls who fell in love with Philip Lis felt that they weren't getting enough love and attention from their parents and that they were receiving the attention and support they needed from this handsome young man online,' said psychologist Veronika Matyushina. She also pointed out that since many of the teenagers who committed suicide after joining death groups were women, romantic feelings may have developed among the girls.

Meanwhile, Anton Breido, a member of a Russian research institute, said, 'Budeikin clearly understood what he needed to do to get results.' 'Since he started the game in 2013, he has been honing his strategy and correcting his mistakes. Philipp and his friends initially attracted children in VK groups using scary movies.' 'Their task was to attract as many children as possible and then identify who among them would be most susceptible to psychological manipulation.' 'They knew that out of 20,000 people, only 20 could become their 'audience.''

Furthermore, when the tasks were actually imposed, many children dropped out when the task stage reached tasks such as 'self-harming' and 'balancing on a roof.' The few children who obediently followed the tasks were then willing to follow any command from the administrator. These children were happy with their status and would do anything to stay in that position.

And because children who completed many tasks were obedient to the administrator's orders, the 15 children who actually committed suicide obeyed the orders and deleted their social media accounts and interactions with the administrator, which became a barrier to the investigation. However, there was one girl who dropped out of the game at a fairly final stage, and this girl provided important evidence that allowed the investigation to progress significantly.

The girl said she discovered a scary picture on social media, clicked on it, and another scary picture appeared, prompting her to click again, eventually landing on Budeikin's group, which advocated suicide. After completing simple tasks, she was asked to choose whether to join a small group of teenagers. The group required her to participate in a daily chat at 4:20 a.m., which left her feeling increasingly fatigued and impaired her ability to make clear decisions.

The girl said she woke up in the middle of the night to a video that flashed every two seconds. The video showed a close-up of a boy and girl jumping off a roof, revealing their bloodied bodies. The video was accompanied by the sounds of terrifying animals and the screams of children being tortured. When she could no longer bear the video and asked to leave, the administrator insulted and threatened her.

Budeikin also told her how terrible her life was and that it would never get any better, telling her to 'do something beautiful once in your life' and suggesting she 'die young.' He allegedly told her, 'You are special, a rare person who understands the truth.' When the girl expressed fear about the final step, he told her, 'Instead of jumping off a roof or getting hit by a train, you can take some pills.'

Budeikin denies the '130 victims' reported by Novaya Gazeta, saying that 17 people actually committed suicide and 28 others were preparing to commit suicide.

'In this world, there are people and biological garbage. They are worthless to society, they are harming society or trying to harm it,' Budeikin said. 'I'm ridding society of these people. I created the community F57 in 2013, but the idea was five years in the making. I needed to distinguish between normal people and biological garbage.'

However, even after Budeikin's detention, the Blue Whale game shows no signs of slowing down and is spreading worldwide. On August 24, 2017, it was reported that authorities in India had asked Google and Facebook to take action after a series of suicides of boys who appeared to be obsessed with the game.

According to reports, a 14-year-old boy jumped from the sixth floor of a building in Mumbai on July 29th, followed by two teenage boys who died in succession in the southern state of Kerala and New Delhi within a month. Authorities are investigating the incidents, suspecting that the Blue Whale is behind them, and have asked Google and Facebook to remove any links to the Blue Whale they find.

In addition, there have been a series of suicides believed to be related to the Blue Whale in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Russia, China, Portugal, and other countries, and it can be seen that the game 'Blue Whale' created by Budeikin is spreading throughout the world in various forms.

The Blue Whale began in 2013 in a social media group called F57, where Budeikin and his cohorts formed a 'death group' that brainwashed young boys and girls into committing suicide. However, thanks to the power of the internet and tabloid coverage, the group has continued to spread independently of Budeikin. Tasks may be assigned in different ways than in the original, but Wikipedia lists 31 tasks, including 'carving a picture of a whale on your arm,' 'watching scary movies all day,' 'visiting train tracks,' and 'jumping off a building.'
