Robot "Kengorou" which can continuously push up for 11 minutes by sweating and releasing heat

Even if you can let the robot do a pushup itself, if the motor continues for a long time, the motor will stop with overheating with heat. But,The University of Tokyo School of Information Science and Technology · Information System Engineering Laboratory (JSK)So, I developed a robot that can escape the heat by "sweating" and continue push-ups for 11 minutes continuously.

This is the push-up of the robot "Kengoro".

Kengoro who is challenging push-ups

Kengorrow is a biomimetic (bio-inspired) humanoid robot.

The movement of the arm is very flexible ......

And it is tough.

There are over 100 motors on the body of Kengorrow and you can do the same movement as a person.

However, since the motor generates high heat, how to do waste heat becomes a problem.

Therefore, a porous material frame with high permeability like a sponge, which is made by laser sintering aluminum, is used for Kengorrow. As a result, water is injected into the frame when the "body temperature" of Kengo rises, and water bleeds out from the porous material. This is the "sweat" state. Since moisture takes away heat and vaporizes, the heat of the motor is exhausted and it will be able to continue to operate without overheating.

With this mechanism, Kenborough can do push-ups for a longer time.

The time to be able to do push-ups in a row continuously reaches as much as 11 minutes. If it is normal operation you can move half a day with 1 cup of deionized water.
