"Dead Sea Document" is a group of documents of the Old Testament manuscripts and Bibles, near the Dead Sea, from 11 caves in the excavation site of Kumuran in the Jewish Desert, from thousands of paper pieces from 1947 to 1956 Found. Originally it seems it was about 900 sheets of paper.

These are thought to be hidden in the cemetery of Kumuran during the Jewish war between 66 and 74 AD. There are various opinions about the producer, but JudaismEssenesAnd the theory is powerful.

There are 25 fragments of "Dead Sea Document" newly announced. 13 of them were donated to the Bible Museum in 2009 and 2014 by Mr. Steve Green, the owner of the arts shop. However, sellers did not explain where they came from, and it is unknown including the authenticity of the goods.

However, among them it turned out that there is a Nehemiah which has never been found as a "dead sea document." Professor Immanuel Toe of the Hebrew University probably speculated that it was a product that came out of the 4th cave where an enormous amount of fragments were found even at the Kumulan ruins.

Meanwhile, fragments under the Norwegian collector Martin Scheen were able to obtain from the descendants what collectors got at the shahine shop in Bethlehem in the 1950s, and hand from collectors living in Zurich In 1948, a student who worked in a cemetery in Cumulan received what was given as a gift from the supervisor in the field.

Mr. Sien began collecting the Bible from 1986, and the final goal is to "get the Dead Sea document". Originally it should have been "Mission Impossible", but eventually succeeded in obtaining fragments of the Dead Sea document and now he has 115 fragments for 27 scrolls. It is believed to have been found in the 1st, 4th, 11th cave of Kumran, and other caves in the Jewish desert.

Incidentally, finding new fragments of the Dead Sea Document is not uncommon so far, according to Eibert Tigchelaar of the University of Leuven, Belgium, since around 2002, about 70 fragments have appeared on the antique market. And, of course, there were fakes in it. There is plenty of possibility that genuine and fakes are intermingled for the fragments found this time.

From that point of view, the fragments of Mr. Green, who do not know the source, seem quite suspicious, but there are circumstances that can not be rejected as imitation. It was because in 1967 Israel occupied the West Bank district and found a fragment in the cemetery cave, since it made a law to donate to the Israel Archaeological Agency (prohibition of new sales of scrolls). When you sell it, you can not say "what you found in the cemetery cave" when selling it, so it will be a fragment of unknown origin.

The Israel Archaeological Office also commented that "Though there are many undiscovered pieces about the Dead Sea document, it is probable that the thief has found it," and the press is also done on the site.

Nonetheless, the government does not keep silent, but a research team led by Professor Randall Price of Liberty University and Mr. Oren Gutfeld of the Institute of Archeology at the University of Hebrew University will conduct an excavation survey in the Jewish desert in 2016 It is scheduled to start from December. In Israel, the final goal is to address the business by addressing the country, digging out all dead sea documents left in the cave, and preserving it.
