Apple filed for a patent that collects fingerprints and photos using Touch ID and camera and uses it for anti-theft and arrest of thieves when non-owner attempts to unlock iPhone or iPad. For example, when a person who steals an iPhone attempts to unlock the terminal with Touch ID or passcode input, when the input information is different from the owner information registered in the terminal, the fingerprint can be saved, It is to take pictures with the camera and lead to identification and arrest of thieves.

According to the patent, not only fingerprints and photographs but also data such as movie, date and time, position information, sound, acceleration, atmospheric pressure etc are collected.
On Android there is an application that takes pictures with the camera when entering the incorrect passcode and pattern when unlocking the device, and it is very similar to the patent that Apple applied this time.
What is worrisome about handling collected data. In the patent, it is said that collected data such as fingerprints and photographs are stored locally or sent to a remote server for further investigation. However, if a person trying to unlock does not intend to steal, for example, when a child tries to unlock iPhone, it is judged that saving of data is unnecessary and it is deleted.
