Amazon removes encryption function from Fire OS 5 secretly using tablet and others
Apple has strengthened its security from iOS 8, and even if Apple does not know the passcode, even Apple is trying not to trace the user's terminal, and in response to the government's request that "I want you to make backdoor"It shows a strong rejection attitude. On the other hand, Amazon seems to be a policy to cancel encryption function after Fire OS 5 and later.
The encryption function release from Fire OS 5 and later was attracted by Mr. David Scovetta's post on Twitter on March 3rd. The screenshot of Scovetta's uploaded user guide shows that encryption support for the fourth generation Fire HD and Fire HDX 8.9 will soon disappear, and in addition, "Your device has been encrypted. In Fire OS 5. Follow the steps outlined below to save your data (Your device is encrypting data, but Fire OS 5 does not support device encryption in the future.) Protect the data in the following way Please) "It is written.

Overseas news siteArs TechnicaContacted Amazon and asked about the above, the person in charge said, "When we released Fire OS 5 in the fall, we deleted some of the features that users are not using," he said. Meanwhile, "It's also encrypted, so communication on Amazon's cloud at all Fire tablets is done and a very high level of security is maintained" was explained. In other words, although security is maintained with respect to the connection between the Fire tablet and the external server, Ars Technica can easily acquire the user's data with a malicious attacker or government.

Users other than Mr. Scovetta are also watching the situation severely. In the Amazon forum, "four options that people can use Fire OS terminals and handle delicate information in business" are "(1) Fire OS 4) Risk of having some kind of vulnerability "(2) Risk of uploading to Fire OS 5 and risking information being stolen" (3) Purchasing another terminal "(4) Custom Installing firmware "is" with no comments "but with commentsI am listing.
Terminals that are developed based on Fire OS 5 can be viewed from the following page.

Amazon sent a statement to mass media companies to clarify that it will cancel the deletion of the encryption function after Fire OS 5 onward. The reasons why it was decided in the statement are not clearly stated and it was mentioned that "We decided to return the full disk encryption function with the next update of Fire OS".
