◆ Concept sketch

◆ Maker Search


To find the manufacturer that produces the real thing, the most difficult process in all processes. Mr Sheldon was looking for a manufacturer that will produce high quality bags in the US, but as a condition I was hoping for a place to accept the first production for prototype at a low price. If you search in China you can find cheap and underwriters but you can not make high quality custom bags.

Because the messenger bag was a completely different product from the products we have produced so far, we needed a manufacturer that can handle special orders and even fine orders, but it was hard to find a manufacturer that fits the hope. After contacting more than 40 factories, we finally found a company that can produce bags as expected in Portland, Oregon. Mr Sheldon advises, "Although searching for manufacturers is extremely difficult, please do not give up even in desperate circumstances."

◆ Material


Sheldon looked at the canvas fabric that painted the wax in searching for the material used for the bag. The canvas fabric that was subjected to wax processing was developed for fishermen and navy sailors in the 1800s and is a durable waterproof fabric excellent in heat retention and drying. ◆ First prototype


"It is very difficult to know how sketch design is reflected in the first prototype," sheldon said. When the prototype was completed for the first time and received the real thing, some modifications / improvements I noticed the point. The reason why I did not notice the correction point up to this stage is because I was able to verify the canvas fabric with only a small sample at the initial stage of production. You can see that "making prototypes" is an important process before commercialization. Sheldon changed the length of the front flap of the bag and the length of the leather strip towards the prototype of the final version.

Final version prototype


Making Shellon is considered part of the investment to make a perfect product though the production of the prototype is costly, respectively. The final prototype was convincing, but it took more production cost than expected. Still, Mr Sheldon did not make the material inexpensive or change the parts, Ugmonk does not purchase the product at the wholesale price, but since it sells the product directly to the customer, he raised the price It is because it can maintain a reasonable cost even without it.
