Caffeine proved to be effective to increase memory

I think that many people have experienced studying while drinking coffee before the exam, but the act of drinking this coffee seems to be a reasonable way to increase learning effect. Researchers in the United States reveal that caffeine contained in coffee has the effect of strengthening memory.

Until now, there was a claim based on the rule of thumb "to take caffeine to increase memory," but the negative opinion was a major opinion about this effect. Since the caffeine memory strength boosting theory coming from empirical rule is a state in which learning motivation exists before drinking a caffeinated beverage such as coffee, it is probable that caffeine is improving the memory ability or because of subject motivation There is a drawback that it is difficult to judge by carving out, and it has been difficult to prove the utility of caffeine.

Dr. Michael Yassa of Johns Hopkins University in the United States who studies about the effect of caffeine on memory, in order to eliminate factors due to motivation, we asked the subjects to participate in the experiment without revealing their research purpose. The contents of the experiment are explained in the following movie.

160 subjects showed images that are familiar to everyday life such as chairs and duck dolls and then checked how much image images are stored 24 hours later.

Dr. Yassa grouped subjects in half, one group shows coffee with caffeine after showing the image, the other group drinks placebo (placebo) not containing caffeine , To investigate the degree of influence of caffeine.

On the next day, when the subjects showed various images including the same thing as the previous day and selected the same image pictures as the previous day image, for the same image as the day before, both the coffee group and the placebo group had the same correct answer rate However, as for slightly different image images, the result that the coffee group distinguished the difference exactly came out.

Dr. Yassa concluded that long-term memory will be strengthened by caffeine from this experiment, and because it was able to distinguish slight differences in image paintings, caffeineHippocampus responsible for pattern separationIt is inferring that it may have influenced the situation.

In addition, in this study, we investigated the amount of caffeine that enhances pattern separation ability, and said that ingesting about 200 mg of caffeine is effective in fixing memory. 200 mg of caffeine is an amount that can be consumed with a dark coffee.

Dr. Yassa says that further studies are needed to clarify the influence that caffeine has on memory, and we do not know the mechanism at all, so we expect that future research will be awaited.

As soon as the Center Exam approaches, the exam season will be at its peak, but the coffee we drink during the exam study seems to be meaningful not only to calm the feelings but also to enhance the learning effect.
