Reality robot "can ride", an iron robot with a total length of 4 m is underway

Kojiro Kurata, an iron artist who produced life-sized bottoms and free kick machine "Castrol 1"He said "I want to make a robot that can ride"It is January of last year. Then only the date of about a year has elapsed, but while I was making an iron robot that a person of 4 m in total length can board, I heard that some form was finished, so I made the production scenery To be shown.

Originally I was making it with Mr. Kurata alone, but from the middle it was robot control software "V-Sido"Aki Yoshizaki also participates in the production. I have heard about the circumstances and the concept of the control system that we are going to create from now on.

A huge iron robot "Kuratas" (provisional name) that can ride and steer. According to the producer, Kojiro Kurata, "quadruped humanoid quadruped engine driven land-war weapon type toy robot".

A model for grasping the scale feeling of "Kurasu" produced by Mr. Kurata. It is supposed to be about this size when lined up with humans. The capacity will be 1 person, in the upright state it will be 4 m in total length and about 3 m in the case of getting down. Because it is made almost entirely of iron, it is considerable in weight, and the expected weight is 4 tons.

Arm and armor of the side are not yet attached, you can also look through the cockpit from the side.

Looking up from the bottom is tremendous force.

At the time of the coverage, Kuratasu's feet were under construction than under the thighs of human beings.

Kratas works hydraulically driven by a diesel engine.

The stepladder and the thigh part are about the same height. Taking further shanks from here and so on, the total length will be about 4 m in the end.

"Kuratasu" has 4 feet, with its wheels attached at the tip.

Mr. Kurata who performs the welding work to reinforce the cockpit.

There are also scenes where the blue sparks scatter swiftly and it seems that it really seems to be leaning to the editing staff who was shooting.

The armor of the "Kurasutasu" chest is also driven by hydraulic pressure and opens like a hatch.

Because the back is not blocked yet, you can see the back side of the seat.

Yoshizaki is adjusting the control screen to project on the monitor in the cockpit. Boarding in this way. Editorial staff also got me to take it, but when an adult male got on it, I finally got to spot it. It is Mr. Kurata's commitment to make it much narrower like that.

Kuratasu's hand evolved the "deco pin machine" created by Mr. Kurata in the past. In the first place, the "deco pin machine"Although I was working with JFE, I was forced to stop production due to various circumstances Iron Man 28Part of.

As it is a part that can be said to aggregate the results of past products, it has been made quite a bit and each joint works smoothly.

After watching the ways one "Kuratasu" body, and Kogoro Kurata's creator, to Kou Yoshizaki, who is in charge of the control system of "Kuratasu", I was interviewed about the Kuratasu production.

G:
First of all, please tell me why Mr. Kurata tried to make "cratas".

Kurata:
First of all, it is motivation to make clathus first, but at that time we say "work" in the time period, because there were many making restrictions many things, "I want to make free and pure things this time!" I thought.

After all it is extremely fun to create things by alone. However, although this was said before by Hakase (= Yoshizaki-san), robot is really comprehensive thing, it is hard to complete making it simply by specializing in one thing. As my production style, I am challenging a wide variety of things, so can not one person make Robo? I am also thinking.

G:
So what was the reason for working with the Yoshizaki-san to tackle robot production that we thought could be done alone?

Kurata:
The encounter with Hakase is the fact that the existence of Hakase has been introduced in blog comment from the beginning of production. First I actually went to see him and talked to him, but at that stage he was not about to associate with him, he thought he wanted to know what his system was like.

So, when I listen to the story, he said from the idea that he wanted to make a robot with Robo Otaku since he was a child, first he was doing what he can do. And one of my dreams is making huge robo, but it is difficult to actually make big parts and so on. On the contrary, this is a part of the control system which is absolutely missing in the present situation, although it is a thing to make a robot with regard to robot making, a material part is an entrance, and electrical related matter is shallow and gnawed.

I and Hakase are doing pretty similar things, but I noticed that the approach is the opposite. And, this brings together the things that we made together, and we are getting excited to be able to do things that are so thrilling. The initial schedule blew away somewhere in about an hour after I started talking, and when I noticed, I was invited to "Do you want to control my robot?" (Laugh)

Yoshizaki:
It was such a feeling. Of course, I knew about Kurata and Mr. Kota, but I was surprised at first because I did not think it was making a robot that walked no way (laugh)

G:
Please tell us about their hardships in making "Kurasutasu" from their respective viewpoints.

Kurata:
First of all, although it is good to think that "Let's make robot!", I returned to myself "... I did not do ROBO'S DESIGN" (laugh)

At that time, I did not know the existence of Hakase, big things had to think about safety first, so it was confirmed to design in multi-legged form. From there, considering the specifications of absolutely necessary elements, such as dimension setting of sticking pose considering the movement on the car and self-running tires, it takes about half a year to make a model and so on ... It was.

I read materials from the hydraulic cylinders at this stage, but if such a part is a hardship it would be hard work. Since production costs are self-expensive, it is not easy to earn it (laugh)

In the atelier there was also a pizza kettle that is being produced in parallel with "Kurasutasu".

It is easier for people who actually started making real things. It is normal to have parts weight of 100 kg, so it is difficult but physically familiar. However, when assembling the possible parts again and total weight exceeds 1 ton, there is a feeling of fear as expected to perform the operation test in that state. This area is a feeling to jump over the dimension which can be called hardship.

It is said that the ankle of "Krathas" alone is 300 kilometers.

Yoshizaki:
Certainly there is only that weight, I think that it is cold sweat thing just to carry one part. However, my responsibility is circuit design and software development, so it is entirely up to Mr. Kurata to make and design.

I am currently prototyping a cylinder drive circuit and controller. Although there is no difficult part in the present situation, in my case, from the place where the hardware of "Kurasutasu" is completed, I think that it is a real match. Because "Kuratasu" is not shaped so much for walking (laugh)

You should lower your height if you try to make it walk seriously, and you should also turn your knee joints in the opposite direction. However, I know each other, I decided to dare to walk with this design.

After all, even if it is designed in a reasonable way, it will only become a boring design, so I'd like to realize walking with the efforts of the software side as it is as cool as it is now. In that sense, I think that "Kuratasu" is a programmer cry robot (lol)

G:
I think that it is the operation system of "Kuratasu" that the collaborative work of two people is most necessary, but please tell me if there are plans on the operating system that are currently being completed.

Kurata:
Regarding the operation system, it is still under development because it is under development (laugh) The image of the cockpit is mechanical, there are many buttons and levers, like thirties get coming. How is Hakase's "V-sido" contemporary robot control software incorporated into it? I will replace the reasonable system that can be operated with a mouse, touch panel, kinect, by lever and switch, so I think that hakase is holding his head (laugh)

Yoshizaki:
I also like buttons and levers, I love them. (Laugh) After all, it is bad cooperation with mouse operation in cockpit, so I would like to provide a more intuitive operation system.

G:
On the site that I felt "Using hydraulic pressure, this is not cool" in the process of making Kurata's former free kick machine "Castrol 1", but the prospect of robot production stands concretely Please tell me if there was an episode that triggered you.

Kurata:
First of all, I tried using a hydraulic engine for the first time at "Castrol No. 1", and I thought that "I can go surprising easily easily ...".

Mr. Kurata producedFree kick machine "Castrol 1"Is a machine made just to kick the soccer ball and can release a ball of speed over 200 kilometers per hour.

After that, when I looked at the Yumbo who got from my friend trying to use it with Tetsujin 28 before trying various kinds and seeing it, it is a series of things that I think "I see. At this point I began to feel like "Can you do this if you can do? Can you move the robot?"

However, what I felt was not convinced after computing by comparing the force of hydraulic pressure with the impact on the part ... ... rather than saying, "Because Yumbo moves with this part, is it OK?" Intuition only. So I do not know until this completion that this intuition is correct. Or, if you think that "Absolutely possible!", You may get tired of it (laugh)

Analysis on hydraulic circuit, appearing trial and error.

G:
Regarding "Kurasutasu", will you sponsor like the last produced "Castrol 1"?

Kurata:
"Castrol No. 1" strictly speaks of the fact that there was a work earlier, that the sponsor did not get there, but the work itself was made at the request of the client. Since I want to pursue purely the fun that I think of this time, I do not want to do it as a job and I do not want restrictions this time. So, I definitely will not borrow money from the outside without borrowing.

Of course, it is more interesting to have direct assistance, which seems like hakase "It will be more interesting if it collaborates with this person", and there is a possibility that the connection with a person born from there will be a very interesting direction There is, so I'd like to actively do this.

G:
On the blog, it was written about the reason of naming "(The name of the robot that I am producing this time) is the most disgusting name among the candidates sent by my friend", but dare to mention parentheses Why did not you give me a good name?

Kurata:
Actually, it was a cool idea that I thought was pretty cool, but when I saw a model magazine, it was said that it was a name of a certain robot and a murderer (lol)

I already thought about the official name of horizontal notation and it is a pretty good name, but it is a painful thing to hit that word many times over in a blog ... ... after all, as a prototype name under development in a blog or other announcement I guess it's OK with "Kurasutasu". Recently, while having a feeling that I liked it that it is easy to say unexpectedly including myself, I ask myself, "Is this really OK?"

G:
Although it is said that Kuratas is aiming for mass production type, please tell me if you have anything that you are targeting and what you are imagining with animated cartoon works of robot objects.

Kurata:
Whether to aim for mass production type or robot is not mass production type. It is boring unless you arrange a lot.

It is the same as when 1/1 Scope Dog, but I make it because I want myself. Imagine that the Gundam was indeed, if you enter the army, or not a bit special, you can not get on. I want you to be something that is not such a robot, selling it to a second - hand shop and being able to customize it by suitably changing parts, on the extension line of the car. Then, I thought that the view of the world of Votoms was very close.

After all, when I made 1/1 Scope Dog, I also got a simple desire to "I want to move this!", So in that sense, "What if Scope Dog Class Robo actually exists?" It may be that it is a challenge to the assumption that.

1/1 Scope Dog produced by Mr. Kurata

G:
It is a dream to mass-produce Kuratasu and massage it, and it was told that "Because I am thinking about the rocket jumping tool and battle fight, I feel that it is a regular battle specialtion in the bottoms," but "Lohas jumping goods Please tell me if the direction has been decided about ".

Kurata:
Although I would like to manipulate Kurasutasu for a survival game of people, I do not want people to get hurt, of course, real war is more outrageous.

If so, it seems to be very powerful, but I will not fly straight, so I do not hit people absolutely, I prefer a weapon that is kind to people. I wonder if this kind of thing becomes the concept of "ecological jumping goods at LOHAS." Or, because I only wanted to write LOHAS or ECO on my blog, I do not even know for myself (laugh)

G:
Are you conceived of rules etc. when playing matches etc using Kuratasu?

Kurata:
Not at all (lol)

Perhaps, even if there are various rules, I guess the robot will not move and it will become a pitcher's fistfight.

G:
I've been commented repeatedly that I would like to sell Kratas "to the Arab oil king", but would not you explain about the customer image "Arab oil king" that Mr. Kurata imagines.

Kurata:
Specifically, if you are a prince of Abu Dhabi who hosts a fighting sports event "Abu Dhabi Combat" with your own hobby, is not it? If possible, I would like you to consider the Abu Dhabi Robo tournament that gathered the world's robots and the next-generation entertainment and peaceful use such as setting the conflict between countries by Robo's match. As a special specification for the prince, I'd like to think about Kurasuta's "whole gold-plated version" as well. I am worried that the market price of gold is up.

G:
She seems to have received parts from a company dealing with the sheet, but it is kindly provided with parts like this, advice from people involved in specialized fields ... ... etc .. While making other works so far Was it also there?

Kurata:
Especially, since I started my blog, I think that I got more advice and received parts. I imagine that it is because I am publishing events under work and that people with expertise are interested by seeing the state of the work. Specifically, in the previous production of "Castrol No. 1"FRP (fiber reinforced plastic)Regarding Mr. CAST of Nagoya, I got some advice on producing kicking legs favorably.

Even about parts, there are many things to offer in the form of "handover is unnecessary", even if there is no need for it, it is something that I appreciate very much. This is the reason why there is a net.

G:
What triggered the development of robot control software "V-Sido" which can be said as Yoshizaki's masterpiece work this time to maneuver Kurasutasu?

Since I was a kid, I liked a huge robot, so I figured back what I should do backwards from the point that "what technology is missing right now to make a huge robot"?

It was the free study of junior high school that I documented it for the first time (laugh) If the height is 8 m, the hardware will be somehow, so it will be software development in the future. It was an appropriate analysis to think about now, but actually I studied machine design and image processing at a college Robocon and university, learned circuit design at the Skill Olympics, and various fields related to robots After experiencing, I thought that software was important.

Therefore, I thought that the operation of the pilot was reflected on the robot in real time, and I wanted to make a system that can move with the same sensation in a huge robot or a small robot. Of course, neither control of the motor nor control of the hydraulic pressure should be computed arbitrarily by all computers, and lightness to operate with a commercially available notebook computer is also necessary. I set about such a goal and started developing.

G:
Is it that it leaves control to the computer and it runs even on a PC with a low specification? It is amazing.

Yoshizaki:
Of course, using a PC with high specs will make that much better, but it is meaningless if it does not work unless it is in the best condition and it is not widely used by ordinary people.

By the way, the prototype of "V - Sido", in 2008ActroidIt is a software made to move a life-sized robot and a small hobby robot. This isAdopted for unexplored projectBy doing so, we started responding to various robots in earnest.

G:
"V-Sido" can be operated via various devices such as Kinect and iPhone, but which is the most confident possibility, which is fun to steer?

Yoshizaki:
Basically I pride himself on device independence, so I can not say which is the best thing, but what is fun is kinect. Robots that copy my movements are a little SF when you actually see it (laugh) And it's quite fun to simply move with a mouse. If you hand it to your child, you will start playing immediately without having to teach how to use it.

G:
Until now, when applying "V-Sido" which was sure to work with paper crafts and plastic models to piloting a giant iron robot, is there still a difficult part due to the difference in scale? Please tell us the problem and the problem to be solved in the future.

Yoshizaki:
When moving a huge robot with "V-Sido", the biggest problem was "How to make a robot body", but it was solved thanks to Mr. Kurata (laugh)

"V - Sido" has a physical simulator inside, so basically any robot of any size can be moved. Recently, ARTTY Inc.RIC 90It corresponds to a life-size large robot called. However, since Krathas is moving by hydraulic pressure rather than a motor, it is difficult to move this as simulated. It is likely to become a future task to solve the problem with circuits and programs.

G:
Many elaborate origami paper made without cutting one piece of paper on the blog have been uploaded a lot, but when folding origami you draw drawings in advance?

Yoshizaki:
I do not draw drawings in particular. Basically, I make improvisation while thinking about what I want to fold. It continues from the time of kindergarten, but folding with a single square is a commitment from that time.ArmorThere are a lot of things to fold according to annual events such as.

Besides, recently with chocolate staple paperCuteAlthough I have folded it, that way I started folding paper wrapped paper square (lol)

Finally, I will look at the demonstration of "V-Sido" brought by Mr. Yoshizaki. The so-called netbook that Yoshizaki san used for demonstration this time.

Connect the robot and move it as soon as possible.

The wonderful thing is amazing even if it explains in terms such as real-time behavior of an action and an intuitive interface, but you can see its overwhelming performance by looking at animation.

Robot control software "V-Sido" demonstration demonstration - YouTube

Even if the scaffolding tilts suddenly, "V-Sido" calculates its slope, calculates the force required to stay, and sends instructions to the robot to what extent to step on, such a trick can also be possible.

The production situation of "Kuratasu" is published from Mr. Kurata's blog at any time, and it seems that live camera delivery of control tests is also occasionally carried out in the near future. Also, Mr. Yoshizaki's blog also tells you about the subjects of engaging in "cratas" production. If you are concerned about the current situation of "Kurasutasu" please see the link below.

I will make everything.
