Since the book 'Einstein's Life and the Universe' was machine translated, it will be collected.

According to the reader's report, the second volume of 'Einstein's Life and Space ' released by Takeda Random House Japan Co., Ltd. in June 2011 contains a machine-translated part and was collected. It seems that it has become a fuss. What's more, the translators involved in this matter explained the situation in detail in Amazon's review, so that you can understand the contents of troubles that are not usually exposed.

First of all, this is the apology sentence.

And in the review column of Amazon, the following explanation is posted on July 15th as 'explanation of the situation from the translator'.

Amazon.co.jp: Einstein: His Life and Space Under: Walter Isaacson, Toshifumi Futamase (translated), Sozo Seki, Takuya Matsuda, Shunsuke Matsuura: Book

I am Matsuda, who was in charge of translating Chapter 5-11 of the first volume of this book. I would like to apologize to the readers and at the same time rinse the shame of the supervisors and translators, as far as I know the humorous and dire internal circumstances surrounding chapters 12, 13 and 16 of this second volume, especially chapter 13. ..

The translation of this book was requested by the supervisor, Mr. Futamase, a few years ago. I finished my assignment in July 2010. The translation right will end in September, so hurry up. However, this book was not published at all, and in June of this year, this book was suddenly sent from Random House Japan. And when I read Chapter 13, I was astonished.

I asked the supervisor, Mr. Futamase, 'Who translated this, who supervised it, and who allowed it to be published?' Unfortunately, Mr. Futamase was staying in Germany and did not have this book, so I sent him a startling mistranslation and a rare translation. In particular, 'Maximize to Born's wife Jadwiga' was unbelievable. Max Born's Max is misunderstood as a verb. 'Plank was in a chair.' What is this? From the original text, I think Planck was the chairman. These are clearly machine translations, not human translations.

After sending the previous email, I read the postscript of the supervision and understood the situation a little. In short, chapters 12, 13 and 16 are not translated by the translator. I also sent a protest email to the editor-in-chief. According to the editor-in-chief's reply, we asked Mr. M for chapters 12, 13 and 16, but he refused due to time constraints, so he requested a separate scientific translation group. However, it seems that the editorial department corrected it by himself without consulting with the supervisor because of the terrible translation. The translations of chapters 12 and 16 are terrible, but I think that's why they are in Japanese. However, it seems that Chapter 13 was not completed by the scheduled date, so he requested the president to postpone the publication deadline again, but the editor-in-chief who was refused published the translation of Chapter 13 at his own discretion without sending it to the supervisor. It seems that it was done. It seems that he tried to do something with the reprint. It would have been better to publish only the first volume and the second volume to be more complete, but from a commercial point of view, it seems that the upper and lower volumes must be published at the same time.

Mr. Futamase sent a strong protest to the president and requested that the first edition of the second volume be collected. The president seems to be surprised when he reads Chapter 13. And I decided to collect it.

Car recalls are sometimes a problem. And it is exposed to social bullets. But that shouldn't have been noticed at the time of launch. However, at the time of release, it was clear that the second volume of this book was not very sellable as a product. The reader who bought the second volume of this book for 2000 yen must be angry, he pointed out to Mr. Futamase. He also said that if a book review was published on Amazon, one star would be certain.

The original book of this book is a masterpiece. I translated the part I was in charge of and learned a lot. Therefore, I think this book should be kept in Japanese libraries. However, due to the existence of this chapter 13, if the first edition is bought into the library, it will leave the shame of the supervisor and the translator to the last generation. I hope that the second volume will be completed more completely.

As for how bad the machine translation level is, the following review was posted on Amazon on July 4, 2011 as well.

It is a large book with two volumes, one above the other and one with more than 400 pages each, and although it is a new issue of interest, the translation of the second volume is amazing.

'He sometimes screamed loudly and at the end asserted that the whole event was' the most interesting. ' (P.39)

'Maximize to Born's wife Jadwiga (that Jadwiga allowed him to be driven by his treatment of his family, now preached,' to his rather unfortunate answer. It shouldn't be, 'he freely scolded him.) The above should stand out, and I admire what she said to 'a remote temple of science.' (P.41)

'Albert Einstein's explosive global fame and emerging Zionism are unique in the history of science, concentrated in the spring of 1922 in any discipline due to truly prominent events. A spectacular two-month determinant through the United States of East and midwestern that arouses massive frenzy and pushes the thrill of touring rock stars. The world has never been seen before, probably Jewish. Again for such a scientific celebrity superstar, also a person who happened to be a gentle icon of humanistic value, and never intended to see any living guardian saint. '(P. .45)

That's the original sic. After all Einstein's book seems too esoteric to me ...? ?? ??

The ultimate is p.61.

'It was a phenomenal scene, but it was surpassed by Cleveland. Thousands flocked to the Union train garage to meet with the visiting delegation, and the parade was drunk with 200 flags. Included a car of phimosis.

Something like a painting of Dali or Surrealism ...

In addition, since it is an extremely rare case that a machine translation is published as it is, in a sense, it has become a valuable book that has made a name in the history of the publishing world, and on the contrary, used books are now overpriced. Things are getting worse.
