France's largest torrent site, YggTorrent, has announced its return just weeks after the arrest of its operators.

YggTorrent, the largest torrent community in the French-speaking world, was shut down in March 2026 after suffering a devastating hacking attack, and in July, French police announced they had launched a 'national judicial operation to put an end to the activities of the organization that managed the site.' Twelve suspects were arrested by French police, but just a few weeks later, YggTorrent has announced its return.

In March 2026, YggTorrent announced that hackers had infiltrated their test environment server, stealing the site's database and deleting it from the server. Because the site data and the cryptocurrency wallet used to pay for server costs were stolen, YggTorrent's operators announced they would 'permanently shut down the site.'

Then, on July 1st of the same year, the French National Gendarmerie announced that they had 'dismantled the organization behind YggTorrent, which was the largest illegal download site in the French-speaking world with approximately 5 million users.' As a result, 12 people were arrested and the organization is now under formal investigation by judicial authorities.

After the site was shut down, accessing the YggTorrent domain 'yggtorrent.org' displayed a 'domain sale announcement page.' YggTorrent listed a total of 60 domains as a 'comprehensive portfolio' and an 'established brand with millions of users,' and the domains were being sold for a hefty price of $700,000 (approximately 100 million yen).
