'Codex Micro,' designed by OpenAI in collaboration with Work Louder , a manufacturer of devices for creators, is a keyboard-style device that allows users to control the workspace of an AI agent from their fingertips.

Each key (agent key) lights up according to the real-time RGB status in Codex, allowing you to visually check which processes are thinking, running, waiting, or completed before switching chats. For example, if an AI agent is throwing an error, not only the corresponding agent key but the entire unit will light up red.



By flicking the joystick, you can easily launch frequently used workflows in the Codex, such as reviewing pull requests, debugging, and refactoring code.



Using the Command key, you can quickly perform frequently used actions such as approving, rejecting, push-to-talk, and starting a new chat with dedicated shortcuts.



You can adjust the inference level on the spot by turning the dial. This means you can switch between models depending on whether the task is simple or requires deeper thinking.



The Codex Micro supports wireless communication via Bluetooth and wired communication via USB-C. It is compatible with Mac and Windows. The casing is made of aluminum. Two models are available: a 'clicky' model that makes a sound when a key is pressed, and a 'silent' model that makes less noise. The selling price is $230 (approximately 37,300 yen).

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted, 'What surprises me is that some people want a silent version,' revealing that there were many requests for a silent model.




Thomas Ricardo, an engineer at OpenAI who was involved in the development of the Codex Micro, posted, 'You can order the Codex Micro online now! This is a limited production run so don't miss out. We've been building and refining the in-app experience, but using the Codex as a real keyboard is just amazing! It was a fun collaboration with Work Louder!' He revealed that the Codex Micro is a limited production run.
