Nikon is holding a contest called '

Nikon's Small World ' to celebrate photographs that capture the mysterious beauty of the microscopic world taken using optical microscopes. To commemorate the 101st anniversary of Nikon's microscope business in July 2026, a special exhibition, ' Nikon Small World / NIKON JOICO AWARD Exhibition 'The Microscopic World - Illuminating the Future of Life -'' will be held at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum from July 25, 2026, and we have been provided with some of the photographs that will actually be exhibited.

The exhibition will showcase the artistic microscopic world captured through microscopes, primarily featuring award-winning works from Nikon's Small World competition. It will also include displays of historical microscopes and artworks from the collections of Nikon and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, along with easy-to-understand explanations of the various fields that microscopes have pioneered, including science, medicine, and industry.

Nikon kindly provided us with seven of the microscope images that will actually be on display.

The 'Nikon Small World / NIKON JOICO AWARD Exhibition 'The Microscopic World - Illuminating the Future of Life -'' will be held from July 25th to August 23rd, 2026, in the exhibition room on the first basement floor of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. Admission fees are 700 yen for adults (tax included), 500 yen for students and those 65 and older, and free for high school students and younger. July 25th, 2026 is Nikon's founding anniversary, and admission will be free on that day.
