Nikon's Small World, a photography contest capturing the mystery and complexity of life through optical microscopy, has announced the winners of its 2024 edition



Nikon's ' Nikon's Small World ' is a contest to celebrate photographs that capture the mysterious beauty of the microscopic world taken with an optical microscope. The winners of Nikon's Small World for 2024 have been announced.

1st place: Differentiated mouse brain tumor cells ( actin , microtubules , nuclei)



The photos were taken by Drs. Bruno Cisterna and Eric Vitriol of the Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine at Augusta University.

◆ 2nd place: Electric arc between pin and wire



Photographed by Dr. Marcel Clemens of Italy, this long-exposure image captures an electric arc between a pin and a wire.

#3: The leaves of the cannabis plant. The bulbous glands are trichomes. The bubbles inside are cannabinoid vesicles.
