Microsoft extends Windows 10 Extended Security Updates for another year.

Microsoft has extended the availability of Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10 for individual users by one year, until October 12, 2027. Standard support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025, so users will continue to receive important security updates during this extended period.

Microsoft recommends that Windows 10 users migrate to Windows 11, but also acknowledges that the transition to the new environment may take time. Therefore, they are offering the ESU program to continue protecting PCs after mainstream support ends on October 14, 2025. Critical and important security updates will be provided, but new features, non-security updates, specification changes, and technical support will not be included.

Microsoft has now announced that it will extend the ESU (Extended Support Unit) availability period by another year. This applies to Windows 10 version 22H2 Home, Professional, Pro Education, and Workstations editions with the latest updates applied. Users can register for ESU through Windows Update in the settings screen and complete the process using their Microsoft account.
Registration methods include syncing settings via Windows Backup, using Microsoft Rewards points, or purchasing a license . One ESU license can be used on up to 10 devices, and devices already registered will continue to be protected until October 12, 2027, without any additional action. Microsoft positions this extension as 'a grace period for migrating to Windows 11-compatible PCs.'
