Google Search now features an 'Official Profile' function, allowing users to track posts from websites and social media in one place.

Google has announced a new feature called 'Search profiles' that allows users to view official information about website operators, publishers, and creators all in one place on Google Search. Search profiles consolidate content that is scattered across multiple locations, such as articles, videos, and social media posts, into a single profile, making it easier for readers to find the source of information through Google Search and Google Discover.

When readers find an interesting news site, they might bookmark the official website, search for a YouTube channel to watch videos, and look up X or Instagram accounts to follow updates. Even with information from the same source, readers follow multiple entry points. Publishers also need to manage official websites, video platforms, and social media accounts, which often leads to a fragmented system where they have to communicate to readers 'which account is official' and 'where to find the latest information.'

That's why Google is introducing Search profiles. Tapping the name field in Discover will open the Search profiles page.

Search profiles display a collection of information including website URLs, social media accounts, summaries, articles, videos, and social media posts.

This is what it looks like when you scroll. Even if creators post to multiple social media platforms, you can easily find and follow their latest content by using Search Profiles.

Readers can follow content creators through their search profile, and those who follow them are more likely to see content from those creators in Google Discover, which appears on the home screen of the Google app. However, following content creators only affects the frequency of their appearance in Discover and does not affect search rankings.

As of the time of writing, the only people who can create or retrieve a profile are publishers and creators with a certain number of followers on at least one of the major social or video platforms. According to Google Search Help , the required number of followers is 100,000 or more for YouTube, Instagram, and X, and 300,000 or more for TikTok. Additionally, the profile creator must be 18 years of age or older, and the content must comply with Google's policy guidelines.

As of the time of writing, Search Profiles is only available in the United States. Google says it plans to expand Search Profiles to publishers and creators in more countries and regions in the future, and will add features to make profiles even more useful.
