On May 21, 2026, Apple announced that it would be streaming a special live broadcast of an MLS game filmed entirely with an iPhone 17 Pro. This marks the first time that an entire MLS game will be filmed live on an iPhone.
Apple has been testing the use of iPhones for live broadcasts of Major League Baseball (MLB) games, and used an iPhone 17 Pro for the Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers game broadcast in September 2025. However, this is the first time that the entire live broadcast has been filmed using an iPhone.

MLS and LA Galaxy have released a video on Instagram showcasing the iPhone 17 Pro they used for their live broadcast.

In the video, iPhone 17 Pro cameras were placed behind the goal, in the stands, along the sidelines, and during the players' entrance.

When the match was broadcast live on May 23, 2026, viewers on Reddit complained about issues such as blurry wide-angle shots, obvious compression, frequent focus adjustments, shaky tracking, and increased image processing load when moving quickly across the field. Other issues included blurred or muddy textures in the grass during pans and transitions, which were more noticeable on larger televisions where compression noise and sharpening are more apparent. Some viewers said that most of the match looked normal, and some even noted that closer shots appeared sharper than shots of the entire pitch.
The official MLS YouTube channel has released the official highlights of the LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo FC match. It is unclear whether all of the footage in these highlights was shot with an iPhone 17 Pro, but comments on the video include remarks such as 'This is a match broadcast on an iPhone' and 'Amazing quality.' Also, compared to the official highlights of other matches, the LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo FC highlights are slightly darker overall.
