I tried the 'Bakutan Tantan' udon at Hanamaru Udon, a dish that's piled high with toppings, weighing approximately 1kg in total, containing 340g of meat and 2508kcal.

Hanamaru Udon has introduced a limited-time menu item called ' Bakutan Tantan ,' which weighs approximately 1kg in total and contains 340g of meat. Based on Hanamaru Udon's popular 'Hiyashi Tantan,' it is said to be a voluminous dish that surpasses all limits, with 'Hanamaru Fried Chicken,' 'Pork,' and 'Meat Miso' piled on top. To find out just how amazing it is, I actually went to Hanamaru Udon and tried it.
~In celebration of the opening of the meat-focused store 'Hanamaru Udon Nikuten (Akasaka Hitotsugi-dori Store)'~ Over 5 million servings sold! The hugely popular 'Cold Tantan' goes beyond its limits!? The 'Explosive Tantan,' weighing approximately 1kg and containing 340g of meat, will be available for a limited time at Hanamaru Udon locations nationwide starting May 13th (Wednesday).
Arrived at Hanamaru Udon.

I lined up at the counter and ordered the Bakutan Tantan. There are medium and large sizes, and I was told that the large size has the same amount of meat but more udon noodles. This time I ordered the medium size.

Incidentally, according to

After sitting down and waiting for about 5 minutes, the tantanmen arrived.

This is Bakutan Tantan. It's udon noodles topped with a huge amount of pork, meat sauce, and fried chicken. You can't even see the udon noodles.

This is what it looks like from the other side. You can just barely see the udon noodles underneath the fried chicken.

The soup is a white sesame sauce. There's also some red chili oil floating on top.

Before eating, crack the soft-boiled egg over the meat.

This is what the finished version of the 'Bakutan Tantan' looks like.

I was curious if it really weighed 1kg, so I brought a scale and measured the weight. The weight including the dishes was 1309g. After I finish eating, I'll weigh the dishes and calculate the weight of the tantanmen.

So, it was time to eat. The pork was coated in sesame sauce, making it like cold shabu-shabu. The sesame sauce was sweet, and the addition of spicy chili oil gave it a sweet and spicy flavor.

The fried chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The fried chicken is served piping hot, while the other ingredients and sesame sauce are cold, so you can enjoy the contrast between hot and cold.

The meat sauce has a sweet and spicy flavor. Although it's described as spicy, it's more of an appetizing mild spiciness, so it's a level of spiciness that a wide range of people can enjoy.

I made my way through the meat and finally reached the udon noodles. The udon was smooth and chewy, and very satisfying.

With regular udon with meat, you have to think about the ratio of udon to meat so that you don't run out of meat first, but with Bakutan Tantan, there's just so much meat that you don't have to think about the ratio and can just enjoy the meat to the fullest by mixing the meat sauce with the udon and then wrapping it in pork.

The meat sauce is mildly spicy and appetizing in small amounts, but if you keep eating a lot of it, the spiciness builds up and it becomes quite hot. Breaking the soft-boiled egg makes it milder and changes the flavor, so it's recommended to keep the egg unbroken until the latter half of the meal.

I enjoyed the different flavors of the meat while slurping down the udon noodles, and as a result, I was able to finish it all without any difficulty. The weight of the bowl after finishing was 270g. Since the starting weight was 1309g, the Bakutan Tantan contained 1039g. It was a hearty bowl that weighed well over 1kg.

The 'Bakutan Tantan' will be available for a limited time starting May 13, 2026. The medium size is ¥1380 (tax included), and the large size is ¥1600 (tax included). It will only be available for dine-in; takeout is not available.
