Humans First, a conservative group that argues technology should help humans, not replace them, drafted a letter to President Trump urging him to 'mandate government testing and approval of AI models before the most powerful AI models become widely available.'

The letter was signed by more than 60 vocal MAGA supporters, including conservative anti-AI activists Amy Kremer and Brendan Steinhauser. Among the signatories was Stephen Bannon, who served as White House Chief Strategist when President Trump was elected in 2017 and is currently the host of the popular podcast 'War Room.'

For over a year, Bannon has been warning MAGA supporters about the devastating impact AI will have on jobs. 'This letter takes us to the next level. It clearly states that mandatory testing of AI models and government approval are required,' he commented to the news outlet Axios.

In a letter it drafted, Humans First argues that the most powerful AI systems could potentially be used in the future to design biological weapons, infiltrate critical infrastructure, and manipulate financial markets, and therefore, potentially dangerous AI systems need government testing and approval before they can be deployed. 'This is the same strong, convictional, and pragmatic leadership that you (President Trump) have consistently demonstrated throughout your presidency,' the letter states.

In this letter, the executives of AI development companies are criticized as 'elites.' The letter states, 'America did not become the greatest country in the world because it allowed unelected elites to use its citizens as guinea pigs without any safety measures or accountability. America First means prioritizing America's strength, security, and the protection of its citizens.'

Furthermore, Humans First argued in the letter, 'Some of the world's largest AI companies are operating with little to no accountability, as they compete to build increasingly powerful systems. We cannot expect these companies to regulate themselves.'

Since President Trump took office, the U.S. government has aimed for American leadership in AI and has shown a reluctance to regulate AI. However, this letter highlights that even some ardent Trump supporters are opposed to AI regulation.

Furthermore, in April 2026, concerns arose that cutting-edge AIs such as Anthropic's ' Claude Mythos ' could be misused in cyberattacks, and it was reported that the U.S. government was considering pre-screening AI models.
