Apple's new Siri app is expected to include an automatic chat deletion feature.

According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple's internal affairs, Apple's Siri app , expected to launch in the fall of 2026, will include 'privacy features unmatched in the chatbot market.'

For over a decade, Apple has positioned customer privacy as a key selling point for its products. This issue is extremely important to the company's operations, to the point that its dedicated privacy team can effectively veto decisions regarding additional features. According to Gurman, iOS 27 will be announced at Apple's annual developer conference, WWDC, held every June, and 'privacy' will be a major theme there as well.
Gurman says, 'Apple is likely to argue that its approach is fundamentally different from competitors that broadly train models based on user interaction history and history stored in the cloud. Also, with some chatbots starting to introduce ads, Apple will be able to emphasize that its AI experience is (at least for now) ad-free.'
One example of this AI experience is the standalone Siri app, which is expected to be included in iOS 27. Until now, Siri has been a simple chatbot function built into Apple Intelligence on iOS, but it has been reported that in iOS 27 it will become a standalone app as an AI agent capable of handling tasks from multiple apps.

This Siri app is expected to function as a repository for saving past conversations with Siri and operate as a chatbot similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT or Anthropic's Claude. Users will be able to converse with Siri using the standard Siri or by swiping down from the top center of the screen to enter the new 'Search or Ask a Question' mode.
Many leading AI chatbots rely heavily on history and memory systems to personalize responses and improve future interactions. However, Gurman reports that Apple plans to impose stricter limits on how information can be retained and for how long. One such feature is the automatic deletion of chats, allowing users to choose whether to delete conversations after 30 days, one year, or permanently in the Siri app settings. It also appears that users will be able to choose whether to view past conversation history or start a new chat each time they launch the Siri app.

Other AI chatbots also have temporary chat modes or secret modes that prevent conversations from being saved or used for model training. However, Gurman says that Apple interprets these protections as being built into the system itself, rather than being optional settings that users have to manually enable.
Apple is also planning an upgrade to Genmoji in iOS 27, which allows users to generate their own emojis, aiming to increase its usage. The upgrade will allow users to create 'recommended Genmoji' from photos and frequently typed phrases, and this feature can be toggled on or off in the settings.
