NASA has released photographs taken inside the Orion spacecraft on its official website. The following photographs contain Exif data that records information about when they were taken, and it is known that they were taken with a Nikon D5. Please note that the following photographs have been reduced in size for this article; clicking on the photographs will allow you to view the original data released by NASA.

The camera information from the Exif data is as follows: The camera used was a Nikon D5, with an aperture of F4, a shutter speed of 1/4 second, and an ISO sensitivity of 51,200.

The Nikon D5 is a single-lens reflex camera that was released in 2016, and from the time of its release, it was advertised for its high standard ISO sensitivity of 102,400. In this mission, it fully demonstrated its excellent noise resistance at high ISO settings, resulting in high-resolution photographs.

As of the time of writing, Nikon's main product line has shifted to the Z series of mirrorless cameras. Furthermore, the Nikon D6 was released in 2020 as their flagship DSLR camera. Nevertheless, the Nikon D5's high-ISO image quality surpasses that of the Nikon D6 and the Z series, making it the ideal camera for applications such as high-ISO photography in outer space.

The Orion spacecraft also carries the Z 9, the flagship model of mirrorless cameras. In the following video, Orion's commander, Reed Wiseman, praises the Z9 as excellent equipment.

Additionally, an iPhone 17 Pro Max was brought aboard the Orion spacecraft for photography purposes.
