Imuraya's 'Yawamochi Ice Cream Zunda Mochi Flavor' offers the delightful combination of the grainy texture of edamame beans, smooth ice cream, and chewy mochi.

Imuraya's popular ice cream brand, 'Yawamochi Ice,' has added a new seasonal flavor, ' Yawamochi Ice Zunda Mochi Flavor ,' which was released on March 16, 2026. Developed to recreate zunda mochi, a popular local confection from Miyagi Prefecture, this ice cream layers zunda ice cream, zunda bean paste, and mochi, so I decided to give it a try.

It is said to have a three-layer structure consisting of mochi, zunda bean paste, and zunda ice cream.

The ingredients are as follows. The raw bean paste contains kidney beans and peas, as well as coarsely ground edamame and edamame paste.

Each serving contains 211 kcal.

I opened the lid. Five white mochi rice cakes were submerged in green zunda bean paste.

When I scooped up a portion of the mochi, I could see a three-layer structure: mochi, zunda bean paste, and a light green zunda ice cream underneath. When I took a bite, the rich flavor of edamame immediately filled my mouth. The mochi was soft yet chewy, and the zunda bean paste clung to it with a slightly grainy texture, and I could feel the coarsely ground edamame beans inside. The elasticity of the mochi, the texture of the zunda bean paste and coarsely ground edamame, and the smooth texture of the zunda ice cream—these three different textures enhanced the gentle flavor and sweetness of the edamame.

Yawamochi Ice Cream Zunda Mochi Flavor will be available at convenience stores nationwide from March 2nd (Monday), 2026, and at supermarkets, mass retailers, and the Imuraya online shop nationwide from March 16th (Monday). It was also available on Amazon.co.jp, but at the time of writing, a set of 24 was priced at 5280 yen (220 yen per piece) including tax.
