IT consultancy and services provider Accenture has agreed to acquire Ookla, which owns Speedtest and Downdetector, from Ziff Davis for $1.2 billion.

Accenture said it plans to integrate Ookla's tools into its own services aimed at helping optimize mission-critical Wi-Fi and 5G networks.

Ookla also owns Ekahau , a tool for troubleshooting wireless networks, and RootMetrics , which monitors mobile network performance.

Accenture plans to use the data it collects from Ookla's services to help hyperscalers and cloud providers ensure the resilience of their AI infrastructure and edge data centers, which handle the majority of inference workloads; improve fraud prevention in banks; conduct smart home analytics in utilities; and optimize traffic in retail stores.

Manish Sharma, chief strategy and services officer at Accenture, said of the Ookla acquisition, 'Speedtest and RootMetrics define the experience, Downdetector identifies incidents faster, and Ekahau drives digital workplace transformation through better Wi-Fi. In the era of

omnichannel and agent access, low latency and smooth connectivity are a competitive imperative, and these tools give businesses the power to create the high-performance environments they need.'

Ookla claims its tools perform more than 250 million consumer-initiated tests each month. Ookla has approximately 430 employees and is expected to have revenue of $230.7 million and net income of $76.1 million in 2025.

Ziff Davis acquired Ookla for $15 million in 2014, according to Reuters. Ziff Davis said the sale of Ookla is expected to close in the next few months.

An Accenture spokesperson told technology media Ars Technica that after the acquisition, Ookla 'will continue to operate as it is currently operated.'
