There have been numerous reports of 'restricted views' appearing on Google Maps that prevent users from viewing reviews and other content unless they sign in.

Since February 14, 2026, there have been numerous reports of a 'Restricted View' setting in Google Maps that is activated when users are not signed in to their Google account. In this mode, users are unable to view photos uploaded by other users.

Users who are not signed in to their Google accounts are now seeing the message 'You're seeing a limited view of Google Maps.'

In this state, most of the information on the map disappears, making it difficult to find shops and tourist spots. Also, even if you click on a location, you won't be able to see user reviews, user-submitted images, or videos. Details that are usually displayed, such as popular times and whether delivery is available, won't be displayed.

In the image below, you can see the limited view by moving the slider to the left. While the scale is the same as the normal view, which you can see by moving the slider to the right, there is a big difference in the information displayed on the map.

In addition, related information such as nearby hotels and restaurants will not be displayed. However, basic information such as opening hours, phone numbers, addresses, and links to official websites will still be available. There will also be no restrictions on navigation functions such as route search.

Google Maps lists 'service issues,' 'higher than normal traffic,' and 'browser extensions' as reasons for the restricted view, and also says, 'You may be able to avoid seeing this again by signing in to Google Maps.'

'Google hasn't officially announced this change yet, but it's possible that the change is intended to encourage more users to use their accounts,' PC Mag reported.
