Bengaluru, the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka, was called Bangalore until 2005, and is home to the information industry, earning it the nickname 'India's Silicon Valley.'

Claude's

market share by country is as follows: the United States (22.0%), India (5.8%), and Japan (3.1%). This shows that India is an important country.

Irina Ghosh, Managing Director, India, said of the opening of the India office, 'This is one of the most exciting opportunities in the world to bring the benefits of responsible AI to millions of people and businesses. India has an incredible tech talent pool, a large digital infrastructure, and a proven track record of using technology to improve people's lives. These are the foundational elements that will enable this technology to reach those who deserve it most.'

India has a population of over one billion people, and while its official language is Hindi and English is commonly used, the country is a multilingual nation with 22 other languages recognized in its constitution, including Bengali and Tamil. However, AI models are not yet highly accurate in languages other than English, so six months ago, Anthropic began work to refine training data for the following languages, particularly those widely spoken in India: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. Improvements to the model are currently underway.

Claude is also collaborating with Indian AI data companies Karya and The Collective Intelligence Project to build tests to evaluate performance on region-specific tasks across a wide range of fields, including agriculture and law. These tests will help improve AI models for Indian language speakers and for use cases that are useful to companies using Claude. Claude plans to make the evaluation tools available to anyone.

Anthropic says its sales in India have doubled since announcing its expansion in October 2025.
