Roblox unveils AI-powered 'Real-time Dreaming' idea, competing with Google's world model 'Project Genie'

Less than a week after Google announced 'Project Genie,' an AI world model that can generate interactive 3D experiences from prompts, Roblox, a platform for sharing games you create, announced ' real-time dreaming, ' which uses AI world models and prompts to allow creators to generate experiences and modify them in real time.

Technology companies like Google, Meta, and xAI are excited about the idea that AI can help users create interactive experiences, with Google in particular announcing Project Genie, a web app that lets users create and explore their own interactive worlds.

Roblox took a step towards realizing a similar vision by announcing its own approach to AI world models, called 'real-time dreaming,' and simultaneously unveiling the beta version of '4D generation,' based on its own foundation model , the 'Cube Foundation Model .'

The 4D generation itself was announced in a keynote speech at the 2025 Roblox Developer Conference held in August 2025, and can be seen from around 57 minutes and 20 seconds in the movie below.

Roblox has introduced 'schemas' such as Car-5 and Body-1 as a technology that supports real-time dreaming. A schema defines the structure required for a generated object to function properly. For example, the Car-5 schema outputs the body and four wheels as separate mesh parts, and scripts are automatically adjusted to match the generated shape and size, ensuring the intended behavior.

A key feature of 4D Generation is its ability to add functionality and interactivity to static 3D models. According to Anupam Singh, Senior Vice President of Engineering, the generated cars will behave as expected, with 'wheels rotating' and 'driving according to player input.' In the future, the company aims to create an environment where entire scenes, including assets, environments, code, and animations, can be constructed using only natural language prompts.

Roblox senior director of product Karun Channa told The Verge that Roblox's real-time dreaming is still in the 'research phase,' and there's no timeline for when the tool will be available.
