According to a person familiar with the project, Apple is developing an AI-powered wearable device called the 'Apple Pin,' which is the size of an AirTag and equipped with multiple cameras, speakers, microphones, and wireless charging.
The Apple Pin will be a thin, flat circular device, encased in an aluminum and glass shell. It will have two cameras on the front, one with a standard lens and one with a wide-angle lens, allowing it to capture photos and videos of the user's surroundings. It will also have a built-in microphone, speaker, and physical buttons, making it a device that can be operated independently to some extent while still working in conjunction with the iPhone.
Apple is developing several AI-powered products, including AirPods with enhanced sensors, security cameras, smart glasses , and augmented reality (AR) glasses, and according to multiple sources, the Apple Pin will be added to this portfolio of AI-powered products.
Humane, a startup founded by former Apple employees, released the AI Pin in 2024 as a pin-shaped AI wearable device. The AI Pin was capable of recording videos, sending emails, and playing music using voice and touch input, and even had a system that projected images onto the palm of the hand. However, the device cost a minimum of $699 (approximately 102,000 yen) and required a monthly subscription fee of $24 (approximately 3,500 yen) for network and cloud storage access. Furthermore, the device's essential AI assistant function was not fully functional, leading to the company eventually discontinuing sales and service. The business was then sold to HP.

Apple is also developing small displays, speakers, and other home products that emphasize AI functionality, and sources have revealed that these devices could be released as early as spring 2026. Apple is also reportedly planning to introduce an 'AI-enhanced Siri,' which has been the subject of a class action lawsuit from shareholders over development delays. The Information points out that the release of an AI-enhanced Siri will be crucial to the success of Apple's platform.

The development of the Apple Pin is still in its early stages, and it's possible that development will be halted and the device will never be released. However, a source said, 'To remain competitive with OpenAI, Apple is trying to move forward with development more quickly than usual, and the device could be released as early as 2027.' The source also revealed that Apple plans to produce 20 million units at launch.
