Samsung develops 'crease-free foldable OLED display panel' for Galaxy Z Fold 8

Samsung is reportedly exhibiting a new foldable OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display panel at

CES 2026 , the consumer electronics trade show being held in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, 2026. While foldable panels inevitably have the problem of leaving creases, the new panel exhibited by Samsung is unique in that it leaves almost no creases even when unfolded.

According to SamMobile, a Samsung-related news site, this new foldable OLED panel was on display at Samsung's booth at CES 2026.

The panel (left) used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, released in 2025, is designed to be less prone to creases, but the creases are still visible at certain angles. In contrast, the new folding OLED panel (right) planned for the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold 8 model has barely any visible creases, even at certain angles.

According to SamMobile, Samsung's new foldable OLED panel uses a laser-etched metal plate, which distributes stress when the screen is folded, making it less likely to crease.

The metal plate is expected to be supplied by Korean metal processing manufacturer Fine MTec, and is also said to be used in Apple's rumored foldable iPhone.

SamMobile commented, 'If this panel is adopted in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it could solve one of the biggest problems with foldable smartphones. Not only would it make the crease less noticeable, but it could also improve the durability of the screen, another concern for foldable smartphones.'
