On December 10, 2025, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a division of the Department of Homeland Security, announced that it plans to require international travelers to disclose their social media activity for the past five years. CBP also plans to require travelers to provide personal information, such as phone numbers, email addresses, and photos used over the past 10 years, as well as biometric information, such as fingerprints, DNA, and iris scans.
The disclosure requirement will also apply to nationals of 42 countries currently granted visa-free entry to the US, including longtime US allies the UK, France, Australia, Germany, and Japan.
CBP explained that the disclosure requirement was necessary to comply with an executive order issued by President Donald Trump early in his presidency, which called for 'restrictions to avoid hostile behavior toward America's people, culture, government, institutions, and founding principles.'

The California Tourism Board predicts that the number of foreign tourists visiting the state will decrease by 9% in 2025 compared to the previous year. Hollywood Boulevard has also reported a 50% decrease in summer tourist visits compared to the previous year. Las Vegas also appears to be suffering from a severe decline in tourists.
According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadian residents returning to the United States by car in July 2025 fell by 36.9% compared to the same month last year, clearly demonstrating the impact of the worsening relationship between the two countries.

CBP is seeking public comment on the program.
