In March 2025, technology media Windows Central reported that Xbox's first handheld gaming console, the Kennan, was in the works, predicting that it would feature buttons and a design similar to those found on past Xbox controllers.
At the time, Windows Central noted that 'Microsoft is working with major OEMs such as Asus, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer,' and said that the device would likely not be an original Xbox device, but an OEM device made in collaboration with Microsoft.

Recently, overseas media The Verge reported that 'Kennan is part of a larger effort by Microsoft to integrate Windows and Xbox to build a universal library of Xbox and PC games, and ASUS is in charge of manufacturing.' According to Windows Central, Kennan, which is being developed in collaboration with ASUS, will blend Xbox-style design while looking similar to ASUS' portable gaming PC 'ROG Ally'.

On the other hand, since Kennan is merely a 'Windows gaming PC', you can play games purchased from game stores such as Steam and Battle.net, but you cannot play games stored in your Xbox library. Nevertheless, Microsoft is working to expand Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming and is working to bring more Xbox games to Windows.
It has not been revealed whether Kennan will be treated as 'ROG Ally 2' or whether Kennan will appear as a separate product from ROG Ally 2. In addition, Kennan is scheduled to be unveiled in the summer of 2025 and released in the second half of 2025, but the price of Kennan and the chips installed are unknown at the time of writing.
