AMD announces RDNA 4-based graphics cards 'Radeon RX 9070 XT' and 'Radeon RX 9070', RX 9070 XT is 20,000 yen cheaper than NVIDIA's RTX 5070 Ti, has the same performance, and has twice the ray tracing performance of the previous generation

AMD announced the graphics boards ' Radeon RX 9070 XT ' and ' Radeon RX 9070 ' that use the next-generation GPU architecture ' RDNA 4 ' on Friday, February 28, 2025. Compared to the previous generation model, ray tracing performance and AI-related processing performance have been significantly improved, and it also supports the super-resolution technology 'FSR 4' that can improve frame rates with the same quality as native output.

RDNA 4 is the fourth generation architecture of the RDNA series, and has improved ray tracing performance and machine learning processing performance compared to previous series. It also has improved video encoding performance in 'H.264', 'H.265' and 'AV1'.

Gaming performance is 40% improved compared to RDNA 3.

Twice the ray tracing performance per compute unit compared to RDNA 3.

The performance of machine learning accelerators, which are important for AI development and the operation of AI systems, has also been improved. In addition, the results of the '

AMETHYST ' project, which is developing an AI architecture for games in collaboration with Sony, have been introduced.

RDNA 4th generation GPUs will be manufactured using the 4nm process.

Below is a graph comparing the performance of RDNA 2 (gray), RDNA 3 (white), and RDNA 4 (blue). The performance of rasterization processing has improved steadily, and the performance of ray tracing processing and machine learning processing has been greatly enhanced.

In addition, the RDNA 4 generation GPU also supports the super-resolution technology 'FSR 4'. FSR 3.1 was already capable of high-quality super-resolution, but FSR 4 further improves the quality, making it possible to output video at a quality very close to the native output while improving the frame rate.

If you're outputting Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in 4K, FSR 4 can increase the frame rate by 3.7x while maintaining quality.

The first products to adopt RDNA 4 are the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070.

The Radeon RX 9070 is a graphics board developed with 1440p and 4K output in mind, with a minimum price of $549 (about 82,700 yen). It has 56 compute units, 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, a boost frequency of 2520MHz, 1165TOPS INT4 AI processing performance, and 220W power consumption.

Below is a graph comparing the gaming performance of the Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 7900 GRE. At 4K output, an average 21% performance improvement was achieved.

At 1440p, there's an average improvement of 20%.

At 1440p, it can render PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS at 173 FPsync, Counter-Strike 2 at 327 FPS, DOTA 2 at 346 FPS, League of Legends at 561 FPS, and VALORANT at 1002 FPS.

The minimum price for the higher-end Radeon RX 9070 XT is $599 (approximately 90,200 yen). It has 64 compute units, 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, a boost frequency of 2970MHz, 1557TOPS INT4 AI processing performance, and 304W power consumption.

4K gaming performance is an average 42% increase compared to the Radeon RX 7900 GRE.

Gaming performance at 1440p is improved by an average of 38%.

In addition, compared to the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, the processing performance of AI tasks such as 'removing noise in Adobe Lightroom' and 'automatically generating subtitles in DaVinci Resolve' has also been improved.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT's rival is NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.

The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is priced at $749 (approximately 112,800 yen), which is more than 20,000 yen more expensive than the Radeon RX 9070 XT. Nevertheless, the Radeon RX 9070 XT performs better in some games, with the average performance difference being kept to 2%.

The price per performance is 23% higher for the Radeon RX 9070 XT.

Additionally, third-party overclocked models outperform the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti by an average of 2%.

Both the Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT support DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b.

The power connector is a standard 8-pin.

It supports PCIe 5.0 and is compatible with AMD's AM5 platform.
