It contains 30 types of spices, the most of any House Foods retort product, and the curry roux manufacturing method has been completely revamped to bring out both the fragrant spices and the rich flavor, so I tried eating it to see what kind of retort curry it was.

'Tomato, a European-style curry and stew specialty store,' is a long-established store founded in 1982, and is popular for its curry, which is simmered for about 140 hours using 36 types of spices, aromatic vegetables, and

fond de veau . House Foods conducted research and repeated trial production for over a year to develop 'The Selected Popular Store Spice-Weaved Beef Curry,' and the result was so good that chef Kiyoshi Omino praised it , saying, 'They've done a great job.'



The spiciness level is 4th out of 5 on the House Foods Standards. The package says 'medium spicy.'



Looking at the raw materials, in addition to beef curry-like ingredients such as beef, beef tallow lard mixed oil, beef tallow, and beef extract, there are sauteed onions, tomato paste, sauteed aromatic vegetable paste, dried onions, etc., which shows that the umami of vegetables is fully utilized. In addition, spices include garlic paste, curry powder, brown mustard, cardamom, cumin, turmeric, cloves, coriander, black pepper, roasted fenugreek, garlic powder, fenugreek crèb, star anise, and chili pepper.

Cooking is done in a microwave oven. First, open the lid of the paper package, fold it 180 degrees, lay it down like a pillow, and then place it in the microwave.



All you have to do is heat it in a 500W microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds.

When I tried it, I could feel the sweetness of the aromatic vegetables, the umami of the beef, and the aroma of spices that combine a refreshing feeling with a rich bitterness from the granular roux. Although it was certainly spicy, it only felt a little tingly on the tip of the tongue, and the impression that the gentle sweetness of the vegetables and the refreshing flavor of the spices were more prominent. The beef was very crumbly, and I enjoyed the texture of it breaking apart into individual fibers in my mouth.



'Selected Popular Store Spice Weaving Beef Curry' will be available at supermarkets nationwide from Monday, February 10, 2025, with a suggested retail price of 361 yen excluding tax. At the time of writing, it was also available on Amazon.co.jp, with a price of 1,771 yen for a set of 5 (approximately 354 yen per piece, including tax).
