First, Air New Zealand was selected as the top non-low-cost full-service airline. According to Sharon Petersen, CEO of AirlineRating.com, Air New Zealand and second-place Qantas have been in a fierce battle every year, and this time it was decided by a narrow margin of just 1.5 points. Both airlines showed the highest levels in terms of 'safety measures' and 'pilot skills,' but Air New Zealand's slightly newer aircraft made the difference.
Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Emirates were tied for third place. They received the same scores in the categories of 'safety measures,' 'pilot skills,' 'fleet age,' 'fleet size,' and 'number of incidents' that AirlineRating.com uses to evaluate the three airlines, so they were unable to differentiate themselves.
Major changes include the first-time appearance of Iberia and Vietnam Airlines, and Korean Air's return to the top 10. On the other hand, Singapore Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have sufficient safety measures, but they missed out on the rankings due to the number of incidents they have experienced.
