Another War Thunder player leaks classified information about fighter jets

It has been reported that a heated discussion about the performance of the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet that appears in the free-to-play online game War Thunder , in which players can battle in real fighter jets, tanks, and ships, led to a player posting confidential information that was restricted from public release on the game's official forum.

This is not the first time that a War Thunder player has exposed classified military documents: in 2021, a player dissatisfied with the behavior of the British Challenger 2 tank posted documents about the tank on the official forums.

There was also a case where a document containing a blueprint of a Chinese tank was posted on the official forum. This document was uploaded by a Chinese player who was dissatisfied with the performance of the Chinese tank and wanted the stats to be revised.

In addition, classified documents of the F-16A fighter jet and the AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter were posted on the official forum. Gaijin Entertainment, which operates War Thunder, said, 'We do not use classified or restricted information in our business. We have no way of determining whether the classified documents are genuine, so posting them is both illegal and pointless.'

The problem this time is the ' CAPTOR ' installed as a fire control radar on the Eurofighter Typhoon. CAPTOR has two types: mechanical CAPTOR-M and electronic CAPTOR-E, and CAPTOR-E has a significantly shorter scan time than CAPTOR-M. When the performance of this CAPTOR radar became a topic of discussion on the official forum, a user posted 'documents related to CAPTOR' to the official forum as is.

Due to similar cases in the past, the official forums have a warning system in place when users try to post documents, but users ignored the warning. The post was quickly deleted and the user's account was suspended.

Gaijin Entertainment stated on their official forums, 'We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone here: Under no circumstances should you post or share any sources unless you are 100% sure that it has been legally declassified and is safe for public use. We will not handle or use them. Attempting to use them will only negatively impact any changes that may occur in the future. Please do not do this. It will never end well for you or the medium you are trying to post in.'

An anonymous defense industry source told military news site UK Defence Journal: 'While these leaks may seem harmless to some, they could have real-world consequences. Sharing restricted information, even in a gaming context, risks compromising the security of the platform, which could have serious legal consequences for those involved and potential damage to the effectiveness and safety of operations.'
