X gains a faster Grok model and a new 'Grok button' | TechCrunch

Grok-2 keeps up with what's happening in the world in real time, and to enhance this experience, two additional features have been released: Web Search and Citations, which allow Grok to tap into X posts and web pages from across the internet to provide timely and accurate answers to user questions.
The citation feature also makes it easier to dig deeper into sources for more details and to verify the source of information provided by Grok.
Grok's cutting-edge autoregressive image generation model, Aurora, brings a new level of photorealism to Grok's image generation capabilities. To celebrate the availability of Grok-2 on X, we're also adding a 'draw me' feature. This feature allows you to generate a new image of yourself using your X profile picture. For example, you can type 'draw me with a Santa hat' to generate a version of your icon wearing a Santa hat.
Additionally, X will also add Grok buttons to the timeline, which will help you discover relevant context, understand real-time events, and dive deeper into trending discussions.
A Grok button has been added to the top right of the post, so select it.
Grok will then analyze and explain what the post is about.
The Grok button has already been added to the X and has caught the eye of many users.
I just stumbled upon a new feature on X that I hadn't seen before. When you click on someone's post, the “Grok” button appears in the upper right-hand corner. When you tap it, Grok twine the respective post. #Grok #X pic.twitter.com/QiVUBIKpam

'Apparently, you can just press the button on the bottom right and have Grok analyze your post. It can describe the image, the caption, and the reactions, and give your post some context. Awesome new feature.'
Apparently, you can now ask @Grok to break down a post by simply pressing the button in the bottom right corner. It explains the image, caption, responses, and adds context to the post. What a great new feature @elonmusk ! pic.twitter.com/YGifsKpNkq

xAI released 'grok-vision-beta' as a public beta version of its enterprise API in November 2024, but on December 12th, it added new APIs called 'grok-2-1212' and 'grok-2-vision-1212'. These APIs bring improved accuracy, instruction tracking, and multilingual capabilities, making them an excellent choice for developers looking for highly steerable and intelligent models. As a result of improved efficiency, the price of these models will be reduced to $2 (approximately 310 yen) per million input tokens and $10 (approximately 1540 yen) per million output tokens.
