The new Voice Memos update allows iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max users to 'play an existing recorded music track through their iPhone speakers while simultaneously recording a vocal track with their iPhone microphone.'

'With iOS 18.2, users can play their original song ideas through their iPhone speakers while simultaneously recording vocals with the new studio-quality microphones on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max,' Apple explains.

Leveraging the processing power and machine learning of the A18 Pro chip, vocals and music can be separated to create separate tracks, allowing users to do additional mixing and production with professional software.

Grammy Award-winning singers Michael Bublé and Carly Pearce , along with producer and engineer Greg Wells , created a song called 'Maybe This Christmas' using Voice Memos' new features, which you can listen to in the embedded video below.

A video was also released in which the three talk about the making of 'Maybe This Christmas' and the new Voice Memos features.

'If you're a photographer, they say the best camera is the one you always carry with you. If you're a singer, what do you think about the best microphone?' Bublé says.

Buble took out the iPhone 16 Pro.

I started singing along to the music, 'I've been running all your life.' I used Voice Memos to record the song.

He stopped the recording and said with a pleased look on his face, 'Wow, that's pretty good.'

'Maybe This Christmas' is a song about the love of someone who comforts someone who is hurting, and creating a song on an iPhone, a device that connects people, is a fitting image.

Pierce said he was amazed when Bublé showed him the Voice Memos feature.

Bublé says that with the iPhone 16, you can record studio-quality songs anywhere.

Engineer Wells also found it easier to work with the songs and vocals on separate tracks.

Pierce says he's been writing music primarily on his iPhone for the past few years.

Bublé says the new Voice Memos is a game changer for artists.

Wells and Bublé say they struggle with recording vocals while wearing headphones, so not needing them is a huge benefit.

'With the iPhone 16 Pro, you have a studio-quality microphone, you have the Voice Memos app, and you literally have all of this power in your pocket,' Bublé said. 'I honestly think this is going to change the way we make music forever.'
